Raced a Z6 with my Z6. Theres more to the story...diegoaccord 09-15-2004, 04:39 AM Yeah, it was a 1992 Civic Si (doesn't say VTEC on valve cover, so I know it's a 92) with the D16Z6. He has a short ram, and a muffler. I have a 1994 Civic EX. I have no filter, no axleback back, with the Si tranny. So, it's about the same as his. But the difference is my PR3 ECU. The loaded D16Z6 hatch versus the loaded D16Z6 coupe. This was the first time I raced an exact equal car. Being said, also the first time to see what the PR3 did as compared to the P28, other than kicking VTEC at 6000, and letting me rev to 8400. Race 1. 25 MPH 1st gear start. I won that completely shifting at about 8000. We took it to 100 MPH. Had 2 cars on him. 2nd race, 1 passenger a piece. Same starting method. I got pulled until VTEC in 3rd, which I put a car on him then. My passenger has a B18C1 Turbo delSol, so he knows his his shit, he commented "That ECU helps your top end, because you pull him down the line." 3rd race. At a light. Got pulled on the whole race. I would reel him in during VTEC, but at 8000, shifts pulled me down to 5000, out of VTEC. 4th race. At a light. This race was even down the line, and I got a slight jump at the end. This race, I took it to the full 8400. I would pull at the top, and run out of steam above 8000, then shift at 8400, taking me to about 5500, I'd get pulled on until VTEC, where I'd make up my time, but running out of steam just to keep the next shift in VTEC was hurting me. One thing I've always noticed, as did my passenger. The thing pulls crazy past 6000. I mean, you can actually feel the difference between 5900, and 6000 RPM's when that VTEC hits. I'm not some ricer who thinks VTEC is all wonderful and doesn't know what it is, I'm just saying that you can feel the kick better on a PR3 Z6, than a P28 Z6. I'm sure that the fuel maps on the bottom are killing my HP down there, cause though I feel the VTEC at 6000, I think that it's just going from below stock HP below VTEC, and the VTEC RPM range is pulling *MAYBE* slightly more than stock HP, at higher RPM. As it is, everyone is sure that I will completely kill him on the freeway, which we have set to do tomorrow. But I don't know. Last week, from a 50 roll, starting at 5000 RPM's in 2nd, a DX coupe pulled a half car on me, until that 6000 mark, where I pulled him for a car and a half. A DX pulled on me! Even though I won, that DX should have stayed behind me for the whole thing. I'm gonna go on a limb and say, I can't out run a P28 Z6 until 3rd gear VTEC, so I'm not faster than stock 0-70. So, a poll. 1. Keep the PR3 as it is. 2. Use a friends VAFC1 and set VTEC to like 3000 RPM. 3. Trade the PR3 for a chipped P28. I asked the chipper to give me a chip with a rev limit of 11000, but he may give me one with a weak rev limit, like 7800, or something. Either way, drag racing will be better with the chipped ECU, but at the cost of RPM's... 4. Get another P28. britts99si 09-15-2004, 12:51 PM hey you just thought i would stop bye and read your story well get back at me.. bye hun britt check out my car.. it's a beauty... bye bye i think.. i LOVE HER!!! snowman2005 09-15-2004, 08:03 PM so whats the point of reving to 8000rpm wiht a d16z6. doesnt manke any more power past 7000rpm? suprise the engine aint blow yet. 97CivicX 09-16-2004, 11:05 PM i wouldnt trust a stock d16 past 8k, how much power are you really making up high anyway? 11k... overkill and/or killed vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
