Hey I am considering upgrading the engine in my honda civic. What are the pros and cons of a b18 compared to a h22. I know the h22 type s is about 220 hp but I heard there are weight and handling issues when it comes to this engine. Does the b18 eliminate these problems, and what are the performance specs for the b18

H22 cons has nothing to do with weighing a lot, it's all in the way the weight of the motor sits; which creates understeer. And yes the b18 doesn't have that problem, because the weight is distributed better in civics and integras. The b18 will be a lot less of a hassle to get into your car, as there are no major modifications to get it in.
As for specs it depends on what b18 you're talking about...
b18b (LS, GS, RS motor) 142hp 127tq
b18c1 (GS-R) 170hp 121tq (US model) 180hp 126tq (JDM)
b18c5 (Integra Type R) 195hp (US model) 200hp 134tq (JDM)

civic spoon, thanks. Would you recomend the b18c5 then because it has similar power and it bolts right in with no uder steer issues. Do you know how much these cost and or where I can get one

it doesnt add that much weight and handling is hardly affected, this is from a guy with a h22a in his civic. that so much extra weight it wont be able to turn at all is a myth created by people who havent done it nor have driven a car with it

Fun Fact:

H22's sit tilted back. Although you cannot see it from a frontal view, becaues the valve covers are designed to compensate for the tilt; Look at an h22 from the side, and watch how the lower half of the valve cover slopes down towards the firewall (as with the rest of the motor)

B18c5 is a good choice BUT if only if your gonna leave it stock. IF not then get a gsr motor which only cost somewhere in between 2500-3000. I'm sure you can get it cheaper than that if you just keep looking. Anyways u can use that extra 1000-1500 to dump in the gsr motor and make MORE POWER than the b18c5. ;)

personally id do a b18b1 turbo.....amazing combonation. keep in mind tho that if you go with the h22 its a cable shifted transmission...so you have to mount the shifter setup from a prelude into your car which can turn out to be a project in its self from what ive heard...not to mentions its a lot easier to miss a shift with the cable shift too.
