I have recently been looking into painting the black portion of the dash that surrounds the gauge cluster and cd player.
Has anyone done this or know anyone who has? Dose anyone have that black piece layin around or know where i could get it for pretty cheap?
Im lookin to paint the black part blue or white with the vents being the opposite blue or white. any links to pics of people who have custom painted interior would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I've also thought about doing that. I'm not going to because that's more of a sporty look and i'm not really trying to go sporty with my truck. But if that's the look your after, go for it.

I painted the area around my faceplate red. Check it out.

I kind of don't want to paint anymore, because I don't want to overdo it. If I painted anything else I would do the plastic piece that forms the circles around the gauges. I think that would look good.
I'd check a wrecker for a wrecked truck to get that piece from.

Painting the dash kind of give it the 4 bagger street racer look. If you plan on doing it, it's best to have it done by a pro. You just don't want to get a can of spary paint and do it up. I believe you have to put some kind special coat before the top coat so that the paint will stick to the plactic and wont chip off. I can't tell you how many cars I have seen with the paint chipped off the dash trim.

Yeah it's always best to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

Why not just use yours? It pops off very easily with the removal on the cup holder and ash tray and the shifter all the way down.

He just said why. If he messes up or doesn't like the new paint, at least he'll still have a black piece to put back on.

exactly. cause if i were to screw up i would end up buying a new piece anyway. So if i do it myself i might as well goto a junkyard and get one and use that. Then if i like it i can put it on.
i dont wanna be a dick but simply reading the entire post would have given you that insight.

removal of the cup holder? i dont have to take that off. when i installed my gauges i just popped the black peice off plain and simple. Didnt have to take anything else off or anything, just move the shifter down.

I painted the main bezel, cup holders, ashtray, the bezel where the little shelf is on the passanger side, the overhead cubby outline, and the little cups in the door that you grab to pull the door shut. I painted it to match the exterior color of my truck with an airbrush and it looks really good. Did it over about 3 days so it had plenty of time to dry. I don't have any pics, but I can try and get some. I didn't paint the vents though. I did I think about 2 coats of primer, 5 coats of paint, and 4 or 5 coats of clear coat.

They make an excellent molded dash woodgrain kit that looks great for these trucks. mine even came with woodgrain ac vents,

I wouldn't do that. If you ever had the Sun behind you when you were going down the road, the shine from the aluminum dash parts would be pretty bad...
