I bought a 99 trooper for my son without knowing any of the oil consumption, electrical, and transmission problems. When he started getting transmission warning and check engine lites, I submitted a message. The consensus was that it was a classic transmission position sensor problem. But in the interim, I took it to a dealer who called up the codes and said I needed a new transmission for around $2500-$3000. Instead, I bought the tps for $116 and installed it. After six months, no more transmission or check engine lights. Similarly, after reading about all the oil consumption problems due to too few drain holes on the cylinder oil ring assembly, I decided to do an oil flush, switch the vehicle to synthetic oil, and keep the cylinder heads clean with BG-44K. The vehicle uses a quart of oil every 5000 miles, not every 1000 (or less) which is what the dealer says is normal. Without the dialogue on this website, I would have either unloaded the vehicle or suffered. Thanks to all the expert inputs from other users, I have benefited tremendously and am very grateful. This website rocks!
