A week ago I was in the same position that you are in, however, if you go around and read all the technical posts on the forums you will learn a lot.

Abreviations are used a lot so learn to love them.

Also, you can go to Online Stores and read descriptions of products and what they do.

i would firstly suggest visiting www.howstuffworks.com. They have animations and give good examples on how internal combustion engines function as well as various parts of a car and their purpose.
