1988 to 1986 grilledavethorik 09-10-2004, 08:56 PM Hello everyone, this is my first post here, this seems like a great place. First off, I own a low mile 1988 Buick LeSabre Limited as my daily driver. ~81k, one previous elderly owner, nice car. Well, was a nice car. On my daily commute home from college, my brakes decided to fail at a rather inopportune moment (sudden traffic jam right after the crest of a hill @ 65 mph, I hit the brakes and my drivers side line blew). I rearended a Ford Escort. Was cited, blah blah bla. Did nothing but scratch the Escort's bumper and shut off the fuel pump, it drove away. However, it broke the Buick's grille, headlights, and headlight brackets. It slightly bent the panel that the hood hing sits on, but the hood was untouched and still functions. The driver's fender was crumped inwards on the leading edge. The bumper was basically untouched as well, and the radiator also escaped damage. Nothing major that I can see is bent. Actually, after new brakes, the car drives better than it did before. I do not have total insurance on the car, so I have to repair it out of my own pocket. I am a college student and I had a pretty decent savings, but this accident seems to be leeching me dry. The problem is, I can't drive my car at night. Only the driver's side bright beam is still functional, and it dangles by the wire. I took it to a body shop, and was given an estimate of $1000 to get grille/headlights/brackets from a junker installed (includes labor). I refuse to pay this much just for some functional headlights, as I am getting close to paying as much for the repairs as I did for the entire car. However, I went to a local junkyard today and was browsing their cars. The only 87-89 composite headlight LeSabre they had was involved in a massive head on, and so no parts there. But I did find an '86 with the sealed lamp style headlights, in good shape, for $60 (including everything I can carry out of the 'yard with me). Will this fit onto my car with little work, or will it be too much of a nightmare? I can only think of the headlight wiring being a problem, the grille itself looks like it will work in my car. Of course, I would grab the bar over the grille, and as much of the headlight wiring as possible, and the hood latch, etc etc. Any ideas? Suggestions? I really hope this works. There aren't many LeSabres in the 'yards around here, and I need my car to have headlights. Oh, and I even like the '86 grille better than the '88, looks a little meaner. thanks in advance, and sorry about excessive length. tman 09-10-2004, 10:12 PM I'm not familiar with the 86-88 differences, but if they look similar, chances are it should bolt right up. davethorik 09-11-2004, 01:41 AM Thanks, Thats what I was hoping. One of my buddies got rid of an '86 about a month ago, body was pristine but it had 327,000 miles on the original engine and the third dead tranny. Anyway, I looked it over when he had it, and the grille just appeared to be different because of the sealed beam lamps. Oh well, if it doesn't fit I will make it work somehow! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
