Hi...I'm a newbie. I have a 94 Ford Escort Sedan with Automatic Transmission. It's been sitting for almost a year because it has a problem that nobody knows how to fix. My stepfather is a mechanic, but doesn't know, and he has mechanic friends, who don't know.
Here is what it does. It started out going fine at high speeds...50-70. Then, every once in a while, like say when I stop at a red light, I can't get it to take off again and go over 5 miles an hour. It would just sputter along. Then, about 5 minutes later, it would surge back up and go at normal speeds. It did this for a couple of weeks, then it started doing it as soon as you start the car. Now it won't go at normal speeds at all anymore. My step-father says it's probably a wiring problem, but doesn't know what. He has checked the 02 sensor and the Mass Air Flow sensor and those aren't the problem.
If anybody has any idea what could be wrong with my car, please let me know....I miss it!! Thanks

A Ford dealer can tell you for sure. They're computers are 10 times more accurate than a regular mechanic.

What's up Nitro,
Just a thought, I know because my escort had similar symptoms, have you checked out the fuel pump. If you have you might want to have that double-checked at the shop.
