s10 Blazer diestester239 09-07-2004, 07:48 PM I have a 1991 chevy s10 blazer and it's been running fine for about the 6 months after I purchased it -- But recently, It will die at different times, And I'm having trouble finding the problem (i'm no auto expert either). Here are some examples of when it will die: -in stop and go traffic -going down hill and stopping at an intersection -cold start in the morning Every time the blazer dies, it will shudder a lot, then the engine stops and "service engine soon" and the battery symbol comes on. I have one of those Chilton books for it and tried to see if there any of those error codes stored in memory, but there is nothing. thanks for any help! busa_4 09-07-2004, 07:56 PM check the 3 basics. fuel, ignition, and compression. i am thinking more toward the fuel as your problem. check fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, and injector. i am unsure if that is the cpi injection system? give me some engine info? tester239 09-07-2004, 08:54 PM according to the original dealer's "window paper" -- "...4.3 liter v6 engine, fuel injection, automatic lockup, 4spd trans., catalyst, feedback fuel system" busa_4 09-07-2004, 09:19 PM thats a tbi (throttle body injection)? yes/no? tester239 09-08-2004, 12:14 AM i believe so, but i'm not sure how to check ... busa_4 09-08-2004, 06:59 AM remove the air cleaner. you should see a throttle body and 1 or 2 big fuel injectors sitting on top of the throttle body aimed at the butterfly of the throttle body. tester239 09-10-2004, 01:47 AM it appears to be a throttle body injection.. BlazerLT 09-10-2004, 02:17 AM I have a 1991 chevy s10 blazer and it's been running fine for about the 6 months after I purchased it -- But recently, It will die at different times, And I'm having trouble finding the problem (i'm no auto expert either). There has to be codes in there if the check engine light is on. Have you done a tuneup ever? busa_4 09-10-2004, 07:34 AM check your injector to see if it is not clogged. remove the air cleaner and start it up. you should be able to see the injector spraying fuel into the throttle body. it should be a steady stream of fuel and that stream will intensify as more throttle is applied. before you do this make sure you give it a tune up first. cap, rotor, spark plugs, wires, pcv valve, fuel filter, etc. i would also check your idle. some tbi systems have idle motors and some dont. i am unsure if yours does so you will have to check. make sure it is idling at the proper rpm. tester239 09-10-2004, 04:43 PM BlazerLT: never done a tune up before --the blazer has been sitting in the drive way for a few months, but now i actually use it... I will check the codes again busa_4: how would I find out the proper RPM settings for it? Also, my instrument cluster does not have an RPM meter (if that matters). busa_4 09-11-2004, 08:36 AM there should be a white sticker in the engine compartment. sometimes its on the radiator support other times it is on the back section of the hood. you will have to look. it gives you engine family, basic timing, belt routing, idle speed info., etc. TuckerR1980 09-11-2004, 10:27 AM There has to be codes in there if the check engine light is on. Have you done a tuneup ever? The reason the check enging light and battery light are on after it stalls is because the key is in the on position. Most of the dash lights should be on it if I recall BlazerLT 09-11-2004, 02:00 PM This sounds like a case of a truck needing the maintenance that hasn't been done to it. - Plugs (AC Delcos gapped properly) - Cap & Rotor (Both, not just one.) - Air Filter - Fuel Filter - Plug Wires (If in bad shape) This needs to be done. We can't really see what the real problem is bacause it is being masked by poor running by even poorer up keep. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
