Have a 96 5.9 Ram 2500. Will start but doesn't want to idle. Will idle after some time after running. Thinking it might be the fuel pump or fuel filter. Is the fuel pump in the gas tank? The fuel filter also? Thanks

Question for you. Does it stay running while it's in park? Does it stall when you put it in gear? I ask because I ran into the same kind of problem about 3 years ago. It turned out it was the battery and had nothing to do with the engine itself.

you might want to check out your idle sensor.. it could be that and yes the fuel pump and filter are all in the tank ichanged mine it was 350.00 and took me about an hour and a half

Was it a pain to drop the tank and crap? I need to change mine out because the fuel gauge doesn't work anymore and I'm told the sending unit is all in one with the pump and filter. Any tips you can give me on the job?

A guy I went to school with raised his box up instead to replace the sending unit for his fuel gauge. I'd ask him about it but I don't know where he is.

The box is pretty simple to unbolt and raise up with a jack-all. If you have like 5 other friends you could probably pick the whole thing up and just walk away with it.

Yeah I know what that's like. When the cat's plugged you'd almost never guess what was wrong.

replacing the fuel pump is pretty easy dropping the tank.....bu It sounds like the cat.......unhook the pipes at the manifold and see what happens. Save yourself a buck or two.
