people say the 1ZZ has a lower compression ratio, but you should lower it even more if you're serious. But I think the main reason is becuase the 2ZZ has that extra lift which the 1ZZ doesn't, just like how the honda people like to turbo the LS motor rather than turboing the VTEC motors since it's easier to manage the fuel/air.
