Maybe an odd questionLTJGWorth 09-05-2004, 03:05 PM I have a 1997 Ram 1500 and I wanted to know what the hell the little pad of soft material was underneath the ignition on the steering column. What is that? TurboSW 09-05-2004, 08:47 PM It's so your keys wont scratch the housing and make that annoying key clanging while you drive. :smokin: BleedDodge 09-05-2004, 09:31 PM It's a good idea. I'm glad it's there. LTJGWorth 09-06-2004, 07:32 PM I think its kind of useless and a waste of material that could have been put into the armrest on the right side to make it softer. BleedDodge 09-06-2004, 09:59 PM You must be kidding. imtheoneandonlyD 09-07-2004, 04:22 AM lol....ive wondered that too. But i never actually put thought into it. But that makes perfect sense and im glad its there LTJGWorth 09-07-2004, 06:54 PM I'm not kidding. I've got a big dent in my armrest where my elbow pushes into it all the time. BleedDodge 09-07-2004, 08:19 PM I don't see why you'd want to take material from the column and put it on the armrest, lol. I know what you mean though. I gotta agree that these interiors on these trucks are cheap. That's about the only thing I'd change about my truck. The plastic trim that is mounted along the side of the A-pillar on the driver's side shook itself off. These trucks are bad to have stereo systems in, because the dash and all the rest of the plastic stuff in the truck just shakes itself loose. There was room for improvement there. TurboSW 09-07-2004, 08:53 PM I haven't had any problems with the new sound system I put in my truck. It has a 10" sub and still nothing has started to rattle or fall off. I think it's all on how you install it. I know what you guys a mean about the dent on the center console. To bad they didn't use a better foam. BTW have any of you seen this cup holder for our trucks. Man it's a dream come true as far as cup holders go. I can't believe I never ran across it before. I works awesome. Check it out. http://i3.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/2e/05/79_12_s.JPG http://i7.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/2e/79/41_3.JPG http://i3.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/2e/05/87_1.JPG LTJGWorth 09-08-2004, 05:48 PM I can't get my door panels to stay on. I have replaced the little plastic tabs so many times i lost count. Oh, and i wasn't talking about taking the material off of the column and putting it on the armrest. I was just saying, is there really any point in protecting that area from the keys when they could have used the material for something else? BleedDodge 09-09-2004, 12:54 AM Yeah, there has got to be a better way of making those interior trim pieces stay on. It doesn't bother me too much though, I love these trucks. LTJGWorth 09-09-2004, 08:36 PM Yea I love mine too. Seems like there are a lot of problems though that Chrysler won't own up to. sak1 09-10-2004, 06:12 AM TurboSW, Where did you get this cup holder? The stock one on the dash has spilled coffee all down the dash and stereo! Too bad they didn't change that till after I bought my truck. "BTW have any of you seen this cup holder for our trucks. If you really want one e-mail or PM me and I'll get the info for you. LTJGWorth 09-11-2004, 11:58 AM I've seen that cup holder sak1 09-12-2004, 09:43 AM After asking where to get that cup holder I found a previous post that answered me. Geno's Garage has them for $35. TurbSW, How is the quality of the one you bought? TurboSW 09-12-2004, 10:38 AM It's the same one from Geno's Garage and it is made out of a high quality plastic. The holes are nice and deep and will hold the biggest big gulp. To install you will need a pair of vise grips to grab a hold of the locking pin and unscrew it until the top will latch. Then either screw the holder down in the inner compartment or use velco or double sided tape. This holder should had come with the truck. I have had so many drinks fall out of the skock one I just pretended I didn't have one. BleedDodge 09-12-2004, 04:02 PM Cans fit fine. TurboSW 09-12-2004, 04:07 PM Cans fit fine. Beer cans that is. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
