I have a 1999 grand am and i recently changed the oil for the first time myself. It sayed in the owners manual that if you press the reset button when the car is on, on (not actually started) the change oil light will blink then if you hold it, it will go away. However when i pressed the reset button the change oil light was not blinking. I waited to try the next morning thinking it may be that the oil hadent settled or something like that, however it still did not work. When i press the reset button all that is happening is the little box is switching from how many total miles are on the car to the trip counter screen. So i know something is happening when i press the reset button, but it just is not blinking the change oil light. Any suggestions on what is wrong? and how i can get that light off

Did you press the the button on the dash? there's also a button in the drivers side fuse box that says oil reset, you press and hold that button should do the trick.
