In-Progress: 1971 Datsun 240Z675datsun 09-04-2004, 02:44 AM I'm building this to duplicate one of the most beautiful Z's I've ever seen(and heard!), Paul Hooks' 1971 240Z. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284meandhooks.jpg I'm using the Fujimi 1/24 240Z "L" kit, which is bad kit to begin with. How bad? I'm even using the REVELL 240z to supplement this! First of all, they give you a wonderful engine to create, but the hood is molded shut and the engine bay is barren  Here's what I need to duplicate for the engine bay: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284engineleft.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284ITG.jpg What I've done so far: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284progress1.jpg I cut out the hood, which turned out horrible. I'm using a battery and a brake master cylinder from a 280zx kit. Triple Mikuni carbs from the Revell 510 kit(will have to be super modified) An ITG filter made form foam Radiator/seats from 300zx 6-2-1 exhaust from solder various wiring/plumbing http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284wheel1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284strut.jpg I'll make the strut towers/roll bar from sprue/plastic rod http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284porsche.jpg I'm using (what else?) 17" Watanabes with the supplied discs/calipers painted red to simulate the Porsche big reds on the real car. Anyone got some 1/24 Ao32Rs for me :iceslolan Here are some ride height pics http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284side.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284rear1.jpg wish me luck! sjelic 09-04-2004, 03:05 AM this will be interesting, great diversity of parts here it will be one unique 240 and I allready like it. Good luck! SchuberT 09-04-2004, 03:05 AM fun project and definately a beautiful subject you have there! Orion37170 09-04-2004, 03:29 AM great work so far! i love those classic sports cars kunta 09-04-2004, 07:01 AM Great kick off! Z32 seats for S30? interesting. :p I respect your passion for detailing work, probably your affection for Japanese classic cars is reflects on it. Keep it up! Jurva 09-04-2004, 07:58 AM I also have that kit on my table. I used that z engine in 510, and it had three carbs from 510. My Z has big block with turbos. CADguy 09-04-2004, 10:04 AM Wow! Looks promising. Great subject to replicate. :) Can't wait to watch this build progress. tonioseven 09-04-2004, 12:25 PM VERY cool project!!:sunglasse Jumpman_Z 09-04-2004, 12:34 PM Cool, I'm working on a 240Z as well, which has Watanabes. Where'd you get 17" Watanabes, the biggest that I could find was 16". By the way, Nice Fairlady! 675datsun 09-04-2004, 02:06 PM Thanks for the enthusiasm! Great kick off! Z32 seats for S30? interesting. :p I respect your passion for detailing work, probably your affection for Japanese classic cars is reflects on it. Keep it up! Kunta, this is the seat I need to duplicate, a Recaro http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284seat.jpg This is what I have to choose from : http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284seats.jpg Z32, 280ZX, and kit supplied(S30) Is there a closer option out there? Cool, I'm working on a 240Z as well, which has Watanabes. Where'd you get 17" Watanabes, the biggest that I could find was 16". By the way, Nice Fairlady! Jumpman, I got the Wats from here: http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?FUJ19120 The package and the tire say its 17", but I'm not sure how exact in scale they are. Do you have a picture of your 16"s on hand? I love Datsuns Jumpman_Z 09-04-2004, 10:19 PM Oops, I guess I have 17's too. I had three different sets, and all I could remember was the 15"s and 16"s, that pic of the box reminded me that I have those as well. As for the 16s, I can't take any pics as I don't have the model ormy camera's USB cable at this time, but they came with this AE86 model I got from HLJ. Item FUJ03236. Also, the 16"s are male wheels. Kinda rare for Fujimi wheels. 675datsun 09-19-2004, 06:02 PM I'm trying to duplicate the aftermarket 6-2-1 header with solder. The first branch turned out alright. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284m028.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284189568998iCBcqM_ph.jpg Jaymes 09-19-2004, 06:35 PM looks good so far :) i'm itching to build a model right now =/ Tikiman 09-19-2004, 07:14 PM Superb. weaponCIVIC 09-20-2004, 05:14 PM headers look real good so far slk320 09-21-2004, 11:13 AM You have always done your Datsuns proud. I am looking forward very much to the rest of this build. One question I have is regarding the real car. You had mentioned that the real car had Porsche 996 TT (Big Reds) brakes. I was unable to fit this set up on my car and I am running 18X9.5 rim set up. How was the owner able to fit 88mm brake set up like this in a 17inch wheel? Isn't the caliper and rotor quite a bit bigger than the allotted space? Otherwise, fantastic work! 675datsun 09-21-2004, 11:49 AM SLK320, Thanks, I love Datsuns, 1:24 and 1:1! This is a picture of the front calipers/rotors in a 16x7 wheel. http://community.webshots.com/photo/175152107/175157072GyJQPt These are stock 993 Turbo(Brembo) Calipers, and the rotor diameter I'm sure has been machined down to fit. It was a custom application done a to few Z's at ZCarGarage. Maybe the later model 996 calipers are much larger? Wheels differ in so many ways with respect to inner rotor/caliper clearance, hub dimensions, spindle locations, etc. Maybe the 996 rotors need to be trimmed to fit in your wheel? willimo 09-21-2004, 01:23 PM I have that same kit awaiting a very similar treatment, except I'm going to try to make it a period (mid 70's) car, along with a Skyline of the same vintage (same paint, same wheels, similar mods; "team" cars). I am going to watch this build closely do see if there are any pitfalls to avoid, though it looked simple enough. I'm also looking forward to seeing what great mods and scratchbuilding you do. That header is gonna be a toughie, but awesome. slk320 09-21-2004, 03:57 PM SLK320, Thanks, I love Datsuns, 1:24 and 1:1! This is a picture of the front calipers/rotors in a 16x7 wheel. http://community.webshots.com/photo/175152107/175157072GyJQPt These are stock 993 Turbo(Brembo) Calipers, and the rotor diameter I'm sure has been machined down to fit. Wheels differ in so many ways with respect to inner rotor/caliper clearance, hub dimensions, spindle locations, etc. Maybe the 996 rotors need to be trimmed to fit in your wheel? Thanks for the photo. You are right, my set up is VERY different and can not be accomodated, however I have installed BREMBO GT kit with good results. I opted for a smalled 4 piston set up. Never-the-less I will look forward to your progress photos, especially the engine and the air cleaner! Should be very interesting. 675datsun 09-22-2004, 11:49 PM I added the 2nd branch of the header. It's still rough, and I missed some bends. The hard part will be merging and creating the collectors. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284190973172UcBlbq_ph.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284190972429JMXauK_ph.jpg willimo 09-23-2004, 12:36 AM The merging pips and collector are difficult indeed. You've probably already got an idea on how to do it, I don't doubt your fab skills. Here's what I do anyway... After doing all the bends, I take it all apart. Then I file th ends of each pipe into a triangle shape, then use a bit of bare metal foil to make the collector (I've had no luck with heat shrink tubing - I've seen it look great, but I can't get it to shrink well). However, that's only been for 4 pipes, so it's been easy. 6 is a whole new animal. tetsuyagarage 09-23-2004, 02:54 AM wow i loved your previous models and i think this one's gonna top them all! Okiemodelbuilder 09-23-2004, 10:10 AM [QUOTE=675datsun]Thanks for the enthusiasm! Get you an AMT 1988 Ford Mustang GT kit. They have a set of Recaro seats that are real close to what you need. Here's a pic of a set I used in my Cobra II. http://images6.fotki.com/v78/photos/2/224343/973695/CobraIIseats-vi.jpg You will have to remove some material off of the bottom of the seat to get it to sit close to the floor and the headrest will need to be modified. These seats have their origin in the MPC Indy Pace Car Mustang from 1979. They came in the 1:1 IPC. Marc Honoturtle 09-24-2004, 12:59 PM Great progress! 76 maverick 09-24-2004, 08:57 PM You`r doing a great job on the header , I love them I6s! alakai 09-25-2004, 12:10 PM Awesome so far! Always a big fan of the z-cars. Those wheels are perfect. bigfrit 09-25-2004, 01:49 PM Most of the time Japanese classics are not really my cup of tea, but that doesn't really matter when you post progress pic, I just love your attention to detail and the will to replicate every minute detail on the real car in scale; hats down for another great model ! Oli StephenDeli 09-25-2004, 02:12 PM Great job so far! That header is really awsome! robrex 09-25-2004, 06:12 PM How nice does that car sit!!! This is looking sweet! dyowelb 10-04-2004, 04:01 PM 675datsun 10-04-2004, 04:05 PM Nice! That looks perfect! Great find, you da man! dyowelb 10-04-2004, 04:29 PM no worries. that's why we're all here - to help each other. pre98zetec 10-05-2004, 11:33 AM Lookin' sweet so far, Great job on that header! SpoonMan Dos 10-05-2004, 09:34 PM Great work so far man! Your fab. skills are excellent. chaos 10-05-2004, 10:15 PM Looking super! primera man 10-06-2004, 08:09 AM This is going to look sweet when its done...keep the updats coming. WeaPoN [X] 10-11-2004, 05:49 PM This is gonna be something special. Keep it up. JeFF 675datsun 09-09-2005, 12:24 PM Got back to work on the Z! Not much but I've mocked up a new exhaust. If you want to do a custom exhaust I highly recommend working with solder. It's easy to bend and looks natural. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284ex3-med.jpg Collectors are made from heat shrink tubing. Hee's a comparison of stock, kit-supplied exhaust. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284ex2-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284ex1-med.jpg Next I'll be detailing the engine/bay. ImolaEK 09-09-2005, 05:03 PM  That looks very good! The headers are amazing. Wish I could do something like that:thumbsup: Awesome job on the exhaust ! Can't wait to see more ! D_LaMz 09-09-2005, 06:33 PM Looks great! 675datsun 09-14-2005, 12:55 PM I painted the engine bay and underbody, body color. Engine/headers and exhaust now fit perfectly. http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/451234049hZFbyU http://community.webshots.com/photo/451234314/451234314bFtDvZ http://community.webshots.com/photo/451234510/451234510AxpFgZ ImolaEK 09-14-2005, 04:41 PM  lancer07 09-16-2005, 12:33 AM lookin good :smokin: the header and exhaust look awsome :sunglasse p.s. i have a datsun project im working on and i wanted to know what size solder you used for your header? 675datsun 09-16-2005, 01:52 PM Header primary tubes are made from .062" solder I think, but I can get the specifics when I'm back home. blueboost 09-16-2005, 02:03 PM nothing much cooler then a 240Z done right. lancer07 09-16-2005, 05:03 PM Header primary tubes are made from .062" solder I think, but I can get the specifics when I'm back home. thanks for the help. :) i appreciate it :) 675datsun 09-16-2005, 05:31 PM No problem! I think the beauty of solder is that it comes in a bunch of diameters... you're bound to find something big enough for big-block headers, small enough to plumbing brake lines, and it's super flexible! Hiroboy 09-17-2005, 03:47 AM Great work so far :) bhop73 09-17-2005, 03:52 PM Lookin good. I have always liked those cars. Almost bought one once.. sometimes I wish I would've. Oh well.. As far as the seat. I think if you modify the white ones they would work. They seem to be the closest as far as shape and it looks like you have the skills to mod them. MidMazar 09-17-2005, 10:49 PM stock exhaust is NOO good, great progress. 675datsun 09-21-2005, 12:35 PM The Fujimi kit doesn't have any brake detail, so I am using the master cylinder from a 280zx kit. Brake lines are next. Here is the detailed brake M/C and the proportioning block I salvaged from the other Z kits: http://community.webshots.com/photo/457234094/457234094ajlvfu I tried to simulate zinc plated reservoir caps by using a fluorescent marker on silver paint! Here you can see the holes drilled for the front/rear brake lines and the vacuum line for the brake booster. http://community.webshots.com/photo/457233471/457233471xiNIqs Mounted on firewall http://community.webshots.com/photo/457234107/457234107XQwfFo 675datsun 09-22-2005, 02:51 PM Added the front and rear main brake lines from the master cylinder! http://community.webshots.com/photo/457955865/457955865wpissi http://community.webshots.com/photo/457956217/457956217EzrvcN http://community.webshots.com/photo/457955295/457955295XKatPO hks_kansei 09-22-2005, 08:36 PM wonderful job. those brake lines look perfect! 675datsun 10-11-2005, 05:30 PM http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284474476279hCInmR_ph-med.jpg Finally finished routing the brake M/C, clutch M/C, front and rear brake lines and fuel feed line. I'll replace the silver tape with some photoetched pieces once the engine is mounted. blueboost 10-11-2005, 08:20 PM great work on the lines... Coming along nicely  675datsun 10-12-2005, 12:26 PM Thanks! I'm debating which cam valve cover to use, the Revell 1/25 Chromed cover or the Fujimi 1/24 bright silver cover. The 1:1 car uses a chromed cover but the Revell one is too cheesy I feel. Silver(I painted the Nissan oil filter too!) http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284silver-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284silvreng-med.jpg Chrome http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284chrome-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284chromeng-med.jpg Here is mock-up of the ITG foam air filter I'm trying to replicate. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284airfilter-med.jpg SIde view of carbs and headers... a heat sheild will be placed here. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284side1-med.jpg ImolaEK 10-12-2005, 05:30 PM Wow! That looks great :) 675datsun 10-18-2005, 11:29 AM I'm stoked! Making the ITG foam filter for the triple carbs was a hurdle for me. I found a better type of foam and the stuff is great...it can be cut into any shape and it's texture is spot-on! I will include the mounting tabs and backingplate as well but for now I'm happy! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284480274091lqnccn_ph-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284480274188UChasI_ph-med.jpg More pics: http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/480273575oJyVpQ http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284ITG.jpg Klitmen 10-18-2005, 11:39 AM looks greeeeeeat!!! Jurva 10-18-2005, 02:15 PM What did you use for those red stripes? Colored tape? 675datsun 10-18-2005, 04:12 PM Jurva that's exactly what I used! 3M makes a red color tape but I don't have that so I painted some Tamiya masking tape with red. I'm thinking about making the strips thinner...on the 1:1 the red is actually 2 plates, not painted stripes. Wheelin75r 10-19-2005, 05:07 AM Oh man, I enjoy watching this thread......keep it up!! willimo 10-19-2005, 10:52 AM That aircleaner looks great. I really like how you did the red stripes around it. Your builds are always impressively detailed, great work! Takenpix 10-19-2005, 12:04 PM Some awsome detail. So much for just taking it out of the box and builting it. 675datsun 10-22-2005, 11:37 PM I started working on the triple carb throttle linkage and detailing. This is my attempt at making small enough return springs. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284carbs1-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284carbs2-med.jpg Each carb will have a linkage on the left side...it's a pain! I'm using parts from a photoetched carb-linkage set. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284carbs4-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284carbs5-med.jpg Merkava 10-23-2005, 10:32 AM I think they're small enough! Wow, what attention to detail! Please continue, I'll be watching eagerly. sideshowscrappy 10-23-2005, 12:52 PM wow those throttle return springs look awesome. I think they look as close to perfect as your ever gonna get. great job................*Ryan* 675datsun 10-25-2005, 04:43 PM I had to compromise a little for the linkages... so it's kind of simplified but I think it worked out okay and looks similar to the 1:1's! http://community.webshots.com/photo/175152107/175156278xIgojz http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1332841912-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1332841911-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1332841900-med.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1332841908-med.jpg 1/3 of the way and I'll finish this sucker off! Honoturtle 10-26-2005, 02:53 AM Magnificent, I love it! SupaMan89T 10-26-2005, 03:39 AM awesome! 675datsun 10-26-2005, 01:53 PM Thanks! The three linkages are finished. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284done-med.jpg willimo 10-26-2005, 06:52 PM Looks good to me! D_LaMz 10-26-2005, 06:56 PM nice! eph2 10-26-2005, 08:00 PM Wonderfull Work!! 675datsun 11-01-2005, 02:04 PM Thanks for the feedback! The carbs/air filter are now in place. I'm not sure about using the Revell(1/25) chrome valve cover or the Fujimi(1/24) matching silver valve cover... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284492851531qvLsGF_phsilvercrop.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284492851145AjMomR_phchroecrop.jpg Distributor is on and needs to be wired: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284492850983qQeCrQ_phsilvercrop2.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284492850878SszXbW_phfront.jpg Next up is the fuel line to carbs and back...then onto the accelerator linkage  Merkava 11-01-2005, 03:48 PM Sweet! I am loving all the little details you are adding to this car. Keep it up! 675datsun 11-03-2005, 04:27 PM More progress: The Fujimi kit is missing ALOT of details...it doesn't come with an alternator for one! I used the Revell alt. and I added a few things to it to replicate the 1:1 Alternator http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/495494187iLlNeW http://community.webshots.com/photo/495494288/495494288qUrkdD The fuel filter is also visible so I am using a clear sprue to start: Fuel Filter http://community.webshots.com/photo/495494283/495494283DQCCiz http://community.webshots.com/photo/495494553/495494553AcOutO Fujimi also does not inlcude upper/lower radiator hoses/or their respective inlets to the engine. I was waiting for someone to mention that! Only 6+1 plugs will be used when I get to that wiring. 675datsun 11-06-2005, 11:48 PM The throttle linkage is complete!! I tried to keep it as faithful to the original as possible...it's a tricky linkage that uses dogbones instead of shafts/wires/cables. :uhoh: http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/498815736HPCmXm http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/498856186qXTzsm http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284linkage1-med.jpg The Z also has a little courtesy light in the engine bay, on the passenger side inner fender...I made a tiny light bulb/housing and used small diamter wire to simulate the toggle switch :lol2: and wiring. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284light1-med.jpg http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/498812808dbVhzI http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/499270931kYNwxi A picture of the 1:1 is also shown. Paul Hooks uses an Interstate battery with J-bolts to secure it. Great detail!! I can only sit and wait for more of this great build!!!! Wow! Thank you that means so much to me! Really appreciated. I thought I was surely boring people to death. The thing is that once I'm finished I wil be giving the car to it's owner...so I won't be able to admire her anymore...hence the gaziillion pictures! Hiroboy 11-23-2005, 01:56 AM I'm loving this thread, the detail is very inspiring. keep up the good work :) 675datsun 11-30-2005, 05:30 PM Alright I'm officially done with the driver's side of the engine bay!! My goal has been to replicate everything thats in clear view so the washer fluid bottle, alarm horn and fuse grounding block had to be made. For the washer bottle can you guess what I used? Yes that's right it's a muffler! It's hard to tell but to simulate the blue fluid inside I painted the lower half blue, masked the upper half to leave it white, then painted the whole thing tan! 1:1 for reference http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284on2one.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284alarmfuse-med.jpg Here you can also see the alarm horn which was made from a pen cap and exhaust tubing: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284alarm.jpg And finally the grounding block thingy aft of the shock tower which was made from plastic and gold paint! mrceej 12-02-2005, 06:37 PM AWESOME WORK!! I always get inspiration when I look at your progress!! 675datsun 12-05-2005, 08:53 PM Started the interior work. I really wanted to do carpeting, replicate the vinyl on the transmission tunnel, rear struts, etc, but I'm going to keep it simple to get this project done! I'm using the gas, brake and clutch from the Revell kit: http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/518100269AOTGVg Shift knob, e-brake added. I used small wire painted tan to simulate the gear shift boot tie. http://community.webshots.com/photo/518100386/518100386CDfmig willimo 12-05-2005, 09:16 PM That shift boot tie is a perfect detail! I thought I'd give flocking a try on the Z's interior...it was tougher than I thought(and messier) but I think it makes a big difference from a bare interior! Murray 675datsun 03-05-2006, 12:18 AM Hey all, I had the wonderful opportunity to drive a RB-powered 240z today! http://rabbit.circa.ufl.edu/albums/alvin/MOV05126.mpg Needless to say it motivated me just a bit to get going again on my 240Z:grinyes: Just need paint and some interior work... http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2316466670058696712Tglgzr http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2340295560058696712ZJAZEK http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2758776960058696712WkyTtc http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2047784440058696712cVeWgE The Recaro seats came in from R&D Unique...they are super-close to the 1:1's REcaro LXF seats, and thanks to "dyowelb" for the find! http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2798328210058696712mWksaQ AmazonSprite 03-05-2006, 05:09 AM This is absolutely amazing - I cannot believe how much detail you are managing to add at this scale! As others have already said, this model is truly inspirational! Btw, if you're still undecided about the cam cover, I think that the Revell one looks better since it provides more contrast with the other finishes (however it could probably do with a mild black wash to tone it down ever so slightly). 675datsun 03-15-2006, 01:55 PM Thanks for the feedback! I went with the Fujimi dull cam cover b/c it just looked more beefy than the REvell. Chroming it would have been better! For the flocking, I've heard people use matching paint to glue it down - like black paint with black flocking sprinkled (or whatever) over it while the paint is still wet. Not as troublesome as glue. The work is gorgeous! Your builds are great, I'm glad you're still at them. 675datsun 03-15-2006, 11:12 PM For the flocking, I've heard people use matching paint to glue it down - like black paint with black flocking sprinkled (or whatever) over it while the paint is still wet. . Thanks Will, I don't know why I even bothered looking up a tutorial on flocking...oh well ya live and learn! freakmech 03-15-2006, 11:42 PM Nice build and great detail. just so you know, when i flock i use the Elmers spray glue. i mask off the area to be flocked, spray a good heavy coat and add flocking though a tea strainer. works great. Keep up this awesome build! DJ_Merle 03-16-2006, 01:39 PM unbelievable!!!!!! excellent detailing bhop73 03-16-2006, 02:36 PM Do you have more info on that RB powered 240? Thanks to AF(tpliquid especially) I now have decals for the Porsche "big red" calipers, and they are an important part of this project! I ended up buying an entire kit for these decals(Tamiya 911GT2 CS) but I couldn't be more happier. I detailed the Fujimi discs(Tamiya was too large) by blackwashing the cross-drilling/slots...I didn't go too crazy with the clean-up so I could get that "used" look. I also picked out the rotor "hat" mounting bolts in brass. I shaved the "brembo" logos off and painted the calipers bright red. Then I applied those Porsche logos, I felt like a little kid again:grinyes: Pics: http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2574802350058696712JVYWmy Inside the watanabe wheels http://community.webshots.com/photo/183330861/2678558320058696712mvAwWI Also pictured is the MOMO steering wheel I bashed from a NSX-R kit. 675datsun 04-06-2006, 01:33 PM Rear strut tower bar, harness hooks, seat belts, fire extinguisher, and roll bar added. http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2699104600088060124locgoi http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2922631880088060124QdPdYO http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2995178060088060124sXOzNQ I'm working on the I/O port camera mount, trying to keep it simple though! http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2483541420088060124jvpgwP http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2969092900088060124vfaZMF http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2089984140088060124YULzUz http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2413634180088060124TlaTcn GTmike400 04-06-2006, 02:23 PM I love that camera mount! I hope to deliver the model to Paul Saturday June 10 at a local Datsun car show. klutz_100 06-05-2006, 04:56 AM This is a great looking car and you are doing it full justice! What color is that BTW (sorry, I'm too lazy to dig through the whole thread :( ) 675datsun 06-05-2006, 12:00 PM Thanks! It's supposed to be a metallic blue but I had a tough time replicating it. It still doens' tmatch the 1:1, too dark IMHO. I used Tamiya Mica(TS-50?) and Tamiya Metallic Blue. winstona 06-05-2006, 12:04 PM The engine bay is great looking! Winston willimo 06-05-2006, 08:55 PM Great! It's nice to see it coming together after all that hard work and amazing detail. I can't wait to see it done! 675datsun 06-15-2006, 02:38 AM Couldn't finish by June 10, but I will finish soon! I added the front brake lines to the calipers: http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2971742810088060124sdjIgV To finish the front end I added the T/C rods: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284frsusp.jpg Made a license plate replica and added the hatch vents: http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2243496800088060124acnITj Next is the exhaust: I made this from solder, the muffler is plastic and the tip is a straw, I like the trumpet-style tip even though the 1:1 doesn't have one:grinyes: also visible are the "240Z" vents/emblem and the antenna. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/133284exhtip.jpg Rear view: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/133284exrear.jpg http://community.webshots.com/photo/549112478/2627903570088060124QRfGyg I can't believe it's almost finished! bhop73 06-29-2006, 12:10 PM Amazing details.
