92' Merc idle problems

Our 92 Grand Marquis shakes and shimmeys many times when idleing in drive. Sometime it will totally die at stoplights too. It seems to be okay in Park and everything but when at slow speeds and idleing in Drive it has many problems. Could this be related to the spark plugs? help if you can, thanks.

A rough idle.

How many miles since?:
- the fuel filter was changed?
- the air filter was cleaned/changed?
- the spark plugs have been changed?

Could be a timing issue, but probably more with a 'spark' issue. Need more info.

Actually the timing and idle are controlled by computer. If and only if there is a problem with the computer should you mess with that. Pull the air intake hose off and while standing on the passenger's side of the car, look into the driver's side of intake chamber. You'll notice a tiny hole there. This hole has carbon buildup in it. Take a can of throttle body cleaner and use about 1/4 can of it in and around that hole (keep a rag under the throttle body to catch the runoff). This will take care of your problems. It is likey caused by running low grade fule and with the added sulfur that's being added to fule. Use a fuel system cleaner afterward to keep it problem free. Worked like a charm for me. Good luck

I HAVE A 92 CR VIC & MINE DID THE SAME THING THIS YR. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR(UR THROTTLE BODY MAY NEED CLEANING ALSO) I ALSO REPLACED THE MAF SENSOR(MASS AIR FOW SENSOR) BOTH OF THESE PARTS R EZ 2 DIY(DO IT YOURSELF) C A U T I O N!!!! DON'T FIDDLE W/ THE THR POS. SENSOR WHEN U BUY IT JUST PUT IT ON IT IS ALREADY SET BY FORD'S STANDARDS. IF U HAVE N E QUESTIONS CONTACT ME. [email protected]

alright heres what you do you go down to the local ford dealer and you say hey i have a 92 merc gmq and i need an idle air control motor. and they will probly say thats the 3rd one ive sold today. needles to say common problem on these cars i would also recomend cleaning the throttle body and the egr passages under the upper intake plenum pm me with ?s. btw gotta love the 92's
