1988 Chevy Celebrity 2.8Aresflame 09-03-2004, 08:21 PM I'm a new member, so if i'm posting in the wrong place, please redirect me. I didn't see a forum area dedicated to my particular car (Celebrity) so i chose to post in NONSPECIFIC. I have a '88 Chevy Celebrity, 2.8 v6 MPFI with 185k miles. The previous owner neglected it and since i've had it i've been fixing things up here and there as i could (financially). Recently i discovered a large amount of Oil saturating my spark plugs in 2 cylinders, so much that i think the 2 cylinders are dead. It misfires and chugs sometimes, as well as stalls out on a daily basis. I've never done major work on a car before, but i'm now pondering taking the engine out of the car completely and stripping the head off of it for replacement. I'm mainly just posting to get feedback from others who have more to share with me, and to help pick your brains for ideas and options. I realize the oil may be coming from either the valve stems/seals or from the ring seals on the cylinders themselves (or both). In order to replace the cylinder rings, would i have to take the camshaft OUT completely? What special tools would i need? And what am i looking at in terms of cost if i try doing this myself? I've read my manuals over and over again, i'm just looking for extra info from as many sources as i can. Thanks for your time. :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
