92 Escort LX Wagon Fan Relay???

I've had some wiring problems with my Escort wagon, but a mechanic friend said it was the relay. He said it could blow again...and that's what happened ( i think). The car wont start and nothing electrical is working. I took out the fan relay from the fuse box under the hood (That is the 4 prong box with a black cover, right?) one of the prongs is burned up so I assume that's what happened to it. Does anyone know if this fan relay is what is preventing the car from even starting? It doesnt sound logical, but I do remember reading that the power wire for the starter passes through the fan relay... or something like that.
I don't have much experience with Fords, so if anyone could help, I would be grateful.

Thanks,
Joe

I don't have access to a wiring diagram for a '92, but the cooling fan relay in a '94 is tied in with the start solenoid actuator ciruit. However, it won't prevent the car from starting unless it is shorted to ground. Use a test light and check for power at the starter solenoid. If there is no power there, check both sides of the neutral safety switch (A/T) or clutch pedal switch (M/T). If you have power at the solenoid actuator terminal and the main battery terminal, replace the starter. Otherwise, troubleshoot the other components/wires in the circuit.
