'93 cuts off after few minutes at ildeferncreekjeep 09-02-2004, 01:54 PM Hi - I have 260K miles on my jeep and have not had any major problems with her. A few days ago, after eating with some friends at a local hOOters, I started her up with no problem - idled for about 2 minutes and then she just died - no shaking, no weird noises, no check engine light, nothing - just cut off. I tried to start her up again and the starter and battery are fine and cranking hard - about 5 minutes later she started up again without a problem - only to die while trying to leave the parking lot. I had a bad gas gauge due to bad gas from Marathon/Ashland - they paid to replace gauge and fuel pump. I had the repairs done yesterday and still have the same problem - idle for a few minutes and then dies. The guy at the dealership says it will take him at least 1 hour to diagnose the problem and at least $80. I am kinda thinking that it might be gas related - fuel filter, injectors - but that doesn't make much sense. I read a few threads about CPS and I am really leaning towards that -> Is this a good place to start? If so, can you test this sensor to see if it is bad? I also read something about a coil wire? Please help! Thank you, Jack Saudade 09-02-2004, 09:28 PM You'll need to determine if it's a fuel or ignition problem. When it's dead, do you still get spark? If so, focus on fuel. ferncreekjeep 09-15-2004, 01:43 PM I got it back from the shop and started it up - let it idle for about 20 minutes - did not die. Is it safe to drive, I dont want it to die on the side of the road? So I am guessing that the problem is not the ignition or fuel. The guys at the shop said the fuel pressure was normal when it died after they installed the new fuel pump. I am kind of out of ideas! Please HELP cherokee_guy82 09-17-2004, 12:49 AM did you have the coil tested when it was hot??? the coil will work normally in most cases on a start and as it gets hotter, the casing expands and shorts which is usually more prone when it is wet because the water gets into the casing and shorts the entire coil... have replaced mine on '92 cherokee and the problem was fixed, not sure if you have the same prob but it sounds familiar sugrbr 11-08-2004, 12:46 AM Had this same problem a bit ago and it turned out to be the CPS and also have the ignition wiring checked to make sure fitting tight. Fixed the CPS and then a few weeks later found some loose connections in the ignition wiring. Hope this helps! Cam7 11-08-2004, 06:50 AM Could be the CPS or Cam sensor and if the next time it dies try by-passing the fuel pump balast resistor located on the drivers fender under the hood. Just run a jumper wire across the 2 terminals and see if it fires up. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
