Oil sending unit or rear main????

I have a '94 GC with the 5.2. On my way to work this morning it suddenly decided to leak rather rapidly. Upon inspection it looked to be the rear main gave way the way the drain pattern looked. But I was reading about how sometimes on those engines the oil sending unit busts and leaks oil mimicing a leaking rear seal. Due to the crampedness of under the hood I can't get in there right now to see if it is indeed cracked. However when I run it and inspect for the leak it seems to be running from about the 2 o'clock region on the bell housing viewed from the rear of the engine. There seems to be evidence of leaking down both sides of the bell housing but favoring definitely the passenger side.
If it is the main seal, could anybody tell me how labor intensive it is to replace the 5.2? Is it as easy as the 4.0?

the rear main is a royal pain on a 5.2.the oil pan is pretty hard to get out.the exhaust is in the way big time. i hope for your sake its the sending unit.another possibility, but kind of unlikely,is the oil gallery plugs in the back of the block.I have seen a few that were finger tight from the factory with no sealer on the threads.but that was back in like 94,so if you had that problem it probably would have shown up long ago.also the intake gaskets leak but you typically wont actually see oil running out
