common problems?

maybe buying an'02 gtp, i am just trying to do some research and find out what if any might be common problems or any major problems people might have had with these. any info would be much appreciated, thanks.

Oil pan and valve cover gasket's,Alternator...crappy AC-Delco battery that leaks out the post.Im sure im missing something and someone will chime in........other then that, i've really have been happy with mine.....~Larry~

I think this it not a common problem for SC 3800.

It is a known design flaw. Check around. There are plenty of posts out there referencing leaking intakes on GTPs.

I hate when people post shit like this. My father-in-law has a Camry and that thing had to have a valve job at 25,000 miles. According to the mechanic at the dealership, it's a common repair.

I have an '02 GTP and have no problems.........other than a minor interior squeak here and there. I currently have 37,xxx miles on the clock. It's modded and I drive it hard, including trips to the track.

I know dozens of other people who have very reliable Grand Prix's (or is it Grands Prix??) and LOVE their cars. Nothing personal Phoenix.

The only known problem with the gtp's are the superchargers. Other than little problems that can affect any new car, I think you are making a sound choice.

I agree... I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Sure it has a few bugs, but you deal with them and move on.

How about bad wheel hubs? Not that the bearings or anything like that got bad, but the ABS TRAC sensor that's in the hub goes bad and there goes your ABS and TRAC. I had to have one replaced right around 20K miles. Just wonder how expensive it'll be when the warranty coverage ends.

The only trouble I have with my GTP is keeping gas in it. Getting 15 MPG sucks. Oh wait a min. That's pretty good the way I drive. I have 105,000 miles on it. And my big thing is what new parts I can put in it to make it go even faster.
If you keep an eye on the road, the 1997-2002 GP are doing very well. You don't see them going down the street with smoke coming out of them. 99% of the time when they back out of their drive ways, you don't see any oil spots on drive. And with the way most of us drive them, you don't see them around trees. Ladies and gentelmen. We drive some GREAT cars. Aftermarket wheel hubs are not that expensive for these cars IF you have a problem with one. They are not a fragile as the Malibu hubs, so it's not a big issue, and most do-it-yourselfers can handle a hub replacement. If you can replace pads and rotors, you can replace a hub.

i don't believe that bullshit, that if you want a car with less problems a with a Toyota. i've had about 15 cars(all of the domestic) and i found that as long as you take of your car, like preventive maintenance and avoiding those potholes, that your not going to have as many problems. of all my cars i never killed a engine, went through two tranny's and have as much mileage under my right foot as most people will have in their life time(i'm 31).
it all comes down to doing your homework, make sure your buying a car with good maintenance records and is in good shape, if your not sure than take it to a mechanic YOU trust not the dealers buddy. besides which looks better getting the groceries or looking for red light racing.

definately the red light racing:) thanks alot though guys i've probably already decided on the gtp befor i even made this post, and i understand that every car has its problems and you take care of them and move on, and as far as imports & domestic, definately domestic. someone mentioned something about problems with the supercharger, whats that all about?

I have a 2000 Daytona 500 with 55k on it and no problems. Had a rumbling in the trans once and did a trans fluid change and that went away. Thats it. As far as the SuperCharger problems the only one I had is when I changed the oil in it. I recommend using a HazMat Suit with a good aerator on it. If you get that shit on you, you'll regret it! :iceslolan

'00 grand prix gt, alternator, torque converter solenoid, but the shop said he doesnt see these tranny's in any more then any other so i owuldnt worry too much
