fan, blower motors all work but can't adjust temperature for ac or heat has the digital readout for temp control. the readout works but the temp doesn't change at all from hot to cold or visa versa

does it say "ER" on the display when you first turn it on?It sounds like a bad blend door actuator.

kind of a late reply but thought id put it in here in case anyone was having this problem. i have a 97 JGC and it had the EXACT same problem. it didnt matter if you put it on a/c or heat and no matter the temp setting.... the air flow temperature stayed exactly the same. through a series of evenings on line i found out about the diagnositic mode on the temp control ( or course jeep would NEVER tell you this in the manual). press A/C and RecirC at the same time... then turn the temp knob up one notch. It should now say 00 which means you're in diagnostic mode. (you can let go of the buttons now). now just press A/C. if error code 23 comes up..... its the blend door actuator that needs to be fixed. its under the glove box toward the center hump on the floor. 2 screws to take it off (one of them is little tight to work on). i turned the flap manually after that and OH BEAUTIFUL HEAT came out the ducts :). then i thought about getting a new one (~$60 or so) and thought hmmmm i'll take it apart and see. i noticed the gears wouldnt turn inside... they were locked. i slid one out..... now they turned, so i knew it was just the one gear. Did some playing around with it and got it to turn again. tested a hooked and it worked fine. now its all back together and running perfectly. of course.....THIS after i replaced teh thermostat, replaced all teh coolant, flushed the rad and heater core.... wouldnt you know it.

Here is a follow up. I located the actuator (PN 16124952) and opened it and sure enough, the large gear in there was cracked. I tried to repair the problem but to no avail. I will need to get a new (or used) actuator. I found the part online for about $50 plus shipping, and I will check at the local dealership, and at a bone yard.
I also found that my floorboard under the passenger seat carpet is wet, and I saw some posts in here anout that, so I will go back and find out how to resolve that one!
As an aside, I drove my Wife's 99 JGC and it now won't blow warm! That one has a warranty, so we shall see what happens.
Great Forum, With a 99 JGC Laredo, and a 97 JGC Limited, I am certain to be a regular!
