CRAP! Trying to get the access cover off of my 249 transfer case and can't budge the two torx screws. Any Ideas? I want to swap in a new VC
without pulling the TC.

Try heating the heads of the torx screws with a propane or butane torch.
Make sure that the area is free of grease and oil and all wiring harnesses are well clear.
consentrate the heat on the head of the bolt as much as possible and try and move it while it is hot.
Once it moves and loosens a little, I let it cool some and then complete the removal. Just keeps me from burning my fingers thats all.

Thanx, JD, I'll give it a shot after I get another torx
socket. Snapped two so far. I was just about ready to take the cold chisel to the dang thing.

JD: Heat was the trick. The screws let go easily after I heated them. I used a bernzomatic butane pencil torch. Its only 5 inches long and about as round as a "c" cell battery. Worked nicely in that tight spot.
We operate on the patient tomorrow. Mooh ha ha! :ylsuper:

How much did you pay for the VC?

Cam: $400+$20 shipping. Got on Ebay. It is supposedly the latest version with updated fluid .
msr: They used some kind of thread lock for sure! It was some kind of white hard stuff. The wire wheel cleaned the threads nicely but had to use a little effort. Tough stuff!
