88 Cherokee shook violently then diedjwent 08-31-2004, 06:30 PM I was on the freeway the other night and my Cherokee started to lurch and shake. I then lost power and it wouldn't start for a few minutes. I had to have it towed home and now it will only run for a 30 seconds to a minute before it dies again. After sitting for a few minutes it will start again but then dies shortly after. Saudade 09-02-2004, 09:18 PM You'll need to determine if it's an ignition or fuel problem. How comfortable are you with troubleshooting? jwent 09-03-2004, 01:45 AM I'm pretty sure that I've got spark. I just had the CPS replaced because it wouldn't start. It ran fine for about a week then this happened. Before I had the CPS replaced I checked the coil and replaced the distributor and rotor. I was thinking about replacing the fuel filter. Some one suggested that it might be the fuel pump resistor so I am also considering that angle. The only problem I have is that I'm not sure where the fuel pump resistor is located. Saudade 09-03-2004, 04:37 PM The ballast resistor is located on the inside of the fender well next to the air cleaner assembly. It's a block of white-ish ceramic with 2 wires (one at each end). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
