What about a Toyota Supra ????

enzo@af
05-29-2001, 11:22 PM
That's not a Supra.

Jay!
05-30-2001, 03:18 AM
You should see the JGTC's Supras!

Enzo: I bet you're right. There's a logo on the front of my car pic, but it's blurred by a glare. It seems to match your car's logo, though. Good job; now what is it?

And now, for the Supras...

This isn't, however:

Well....now that i have been shot down in a ball of flames !!!!!.....
I thankyou for pointing it out to me that it is not Supra.

I was just looking at the lights and they kind of looked like Supra headlights to me. Also with a lot bigger body kit then the normal JGTC Supra cars.

Never mind .......

DVSNCYNIKL
05-30-2001, 08:09 AM
It's the Marcos!! Very modified with all that body cladding.

Chris
05-30-2001, 10:00 AM
Yes, it is most certainly the marcos.
They are a small british company that makes wild sports cars.Kinda like TVR, but not. They don't make their own engines, for one.
Which one is it?
I'll check when I get home (I have a British car guide)

Jay!
05-30-2001, 04:50 PM
Now, I didn't mean that as a personal slap in the face or anything, it's just that I don't see anything Supra-ish about that first car. I wasn't sure if you were joking or going out on a limb thinking it was some wacko body kit. So that's why I posted all the other Supras, to show that they all look pretty much alike, and still pretty much loook like Supras.

No offense and nothing personal. Sorry. :D

After all, I appreciate that you responded in the first place.

So this "Marco's" car....where are they raced....Japan/UK ???
I take it that they race in same sort of super car league ???
I have never seen one before.
But man ...does it look cool

Forgot to check. Will do latter.

enzo@af
05-31-2001, 03:37 PM
Well, my knowledge of Marcos' is somewhat limited, but I suspect it is based on the Marcos Mantis. Why? Well, their models all look fairly similar, but the Mantis, I believe, is raced in a Mantis GT league. So, it would seem fitting that these Mantis racecars may have spread out a little.

Chris
05-31-2001, 03:48 PM
Ok, its the mantis. Their other car is teh mantary, and it ain't it. Th estock Marcos uses a 4.6L ford V8, and a supercharged one with 400 or so hp.

Chris
06-06-2001, 10:23 AM
Yes, R&T (I think) did a story on it. Very interesting, especially the weight penalties. I'm just shocked the McLaren doesn't win more often. I would love to attend on of those races.

Yeah, the weight penalties are really cool. Makes for a great spectator sport. Lots of different winners, driving talent really is a plus.

Yeah i think it's a great idea...nothing worse then watching a race and you have one car that is so much quicker then the rest it makes it no fun to watch at all.

LOL, my friend from work went ot Japan last October, so I gave her a disposable camera and told her to take pictures of any car that had side scoops or "looked pointy." :) She only used 7 of the pictures, but she got a Honda Beat, a Nissan Fairlady Z (300ZX), a Porsche 944, and the front window of a BMW dealership, with a yellow car inside, but I can't make it out, and she couldn't remember. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I see a hundred 944s and about double that in 300ZXs a week. I just told her the picture came out great.

If I ever get near a scanner, I'll put up the pictures of the Beat. :)

I'm at the moment saving like hell to go to Australia for Bathust
For all of you know about Aussie V8 Supercars this is the place to go to watch for a weekend of horsepower, beer and women !!!:D

Would still love to go to Japan but it's a bit to far out of my price range due to a car of mine sitting in the shed soaking up most of my money to get it ready for a bash at the show circuit:( :(

Silver S2000....YOU MUST have been a bit pissed off to only get a few photos back.

R33
06-30-2001, 06:54 AM
Silver, I did not take the photos myself. Took it from a Malaysian site. Will post more when they are available. Your story about your lady friend in Japan with the camera is really funny. The same would happen if I ever ask my wife to take photos of cars I suppose:D
The race was really great. I'd been to many F1 race and rally, but the JGTC is the best!
Primera: do u know that Bathurst was the place the GTR R32 earned the nickname Godzilla? Despite the Australian's love for V8, the R32 whipped them all in the first year. The second year was the same story. The third, they imposed weight penalty on the R32 but it still won. So they finally banned R32 altogether for having "unfair advantage"! The inline 6 really bruised their V8 ego, did'nt it?

primera man
06-30-2001, 05:57 PM
Yeah it was good to see the Godzilla kick arse.

Was even better when Jim Richards got stuck into the crowd with his victory speech after the race !!!!!.

Was the same when Ford turned up and started to win in the RS5000.

Yes their ego was hurt !!!!

Jay!
07-01-2001, 12:53 AM
Naw, I wasn't mad at her. :D It was my fault, really. I showed her a bunch of pictures, but that didn't really help her, so, like I said before, I told her to snap anything that had side scoops or "looked pointy." I figured "pointy" was a good adjective for most sportscars. And the Beat did have side scoops. :D Besides, I didn't really expect her to spend her vacation worring about what cars I like. I'm happy with the Beat all by itself. :sun:

Why are the Supras so damn fast? Rumour has it - confirmed by a friend who was lucky enough to peek under a Supra's bonnet - that they are running on MR 2's 4 cylinder 2 litre turbo engine churning 400+ horses! That's why!

Jay!
07-03-2001, 01:21 AM
Yeah?!? My jaw totally dropped when I read that the Supra were running on with I4s. I was looking though all the team pages on www.jgtc.net go there now! and I was looking to confirm the the Skylines run with RWD oonly, when I came accross that! WOW! Now I really want an MR2! ;) :D

rumor has it that the MR-2 has very good handling over other cars.
Sucks how the new MR-S has no turbo :( but it's extremely light ;)

NSX
01-23-2002, 03:26 PM
are you guys serious?
the supra is only using one i-4 from the MR2??!!

R33
01-23-2002, 08:26 PM
Yeah...the superfast Supras in the JGTCC use the MR2's 4 cyl engine with turbo. In fact, the famous 200mph Top Secret Supra uses the same engine too. It's lighter then the normal Supra engine and occupies less space. Mounted deep into the bonnet, the engine almost sits on the driver's lap under the dash! This leaves a lot of space in the bonnet for huge fans for cooling purposes and contribute to better weight distribution.

doesn't it need to be mounted in the middle? b/c the MR2 is configured to be mounted in the middle right?

R33
01-24-2002, 08:18 PM
Yes, the MR2 is mid engined. That contributes to its excellent weight distribution. But in the Supra, the MR2 engine is front mounted deep into the bonnet so much so part of the engine is actually under the dash! That is as close as possible to the Supra having a mid engine I suppose. Apparently it help s a lot in achieving good weight distribution. That also leaves a lot of space in front of the bonnet for cooling purposes. The Top Secret 200mph Supra for example exploits this empty area to put an industrial sized cooling fan! You should see the pic, the fans are huge and is mounted horizontally!

the JGTC version MR-S also uses the turbocharged 3S-GTE motor. what makes the JGTC unique among other GT series (e.g. FIA GT) is the option to perform engine swaps. all the toyotas that ever ran in the JGTC (i believe) used the MR-2 motor...

interesting to note also that the MR-2 ran at a weight of 955 kg but the MR-S (you'd think would be lighter) runs at a weight of 980 kg...

the car at the top of the thread is the Marcos LM600, from england. it was designed for FIA GT racing and uses a 6.0 litre chevy motor. the car is a 6 year old (or so) design and has done moderately well in europe, where it is still used in the FIA GT series. Marcos did build a street version of this car as well to make it legal, but the company went into bankrupcy last year (2001), although there was talk of a dutch consortium buying the company and moving production to the netherlands. the company's website still works, a google search chould turn it up, it's worth a look at.

the 4 cylinder in the supra isn't exactly the engine used in the MR2. it is closely related, yes, but is closer in relation to the WRC motor from the Corolla and the GTP prototype motor from the early 90's, actual power is something over 600hp. at least this is based on everything i've been able to learn about the JGTC supra...
