02 brake light

I have a 2002 Jeep GC special edition, when i step on the brake pedal while in motion, the brake light on the dash lights up. This is not slamming on the brakes either, just stepping on them to slow down at a moderate speed. Any ideas here??

is your brake fluid level low... 2 things will light up only the brake light a fluid level sensor or a parking brake handle engaged
