Oil Cooler Question
08-29-2004, 09:47 PM
Just a question about putting oil coolers on to the R33 skyline gts-t. Does putting a small cooler and remote filter on the engine significantly reduce oil presure. (AKA: Can the oil pump in the stock engine handle it?) I know a cooler setup is over 800AUD. Im guessing they have to over fabricate these, compared to radiators to handle the low viscosity of oil and extreme heat, but does anyone know of cheaper ways to do it. Considering the price of high performance oil pumps, i think that kinda rules out the "replacing" option.

Not it shouldn't drop your pressure at all. Once the system has filled it up initially it is only "extra" oil anyways. It is a very good idea to run one, and the GTR has one factory but it is not the same type of cooling system you are talking about, but a pipe that runs around the backside of the engine. It does work though as you can watch the factory oil temp guage go up and down as you are driving.
