Hi I need help on my 280zx on deciding a motor for it and tranny81_280zx 08-27-2004, 02:35 AM Hi I own a 1981 280zx TURBO...it's all stock right now. People have been saying throw in a RB motor. But the problem is I don't know which RB motor will be good for my 280zx and which tranny do I use. Because I know the skyline tranny is a 4wd and my 280zx is RWD. So what I want to know is which motor and tranny to use. And can anyone give me price range and a list of things needed for the completion of swapping the old 280zx motor with the RB motors and tranny sRscooby 08-27-2004, 02:57 AM not all skyline trannies were 4wd you could use either a rb20det, rb25det, or rb26dett with an rb25det transmission, those will all be RWD prices: rb20det motorset ~ approx. $1000 rb20det front clip ~ approx. $1500 rb25det motorset ~ approx. $2500 rb25det front clip ~ approx. $3000 rb26dett motorset ~ approx. a lot (not sure) rb26dett front clip ~ approx. a lot more (not sure) how the installation goes, i'm not too sure, heh, i have no clue about the 280zx, but those are the engines that are available to you from the RB series personally i'd get the rb25det :naughty: sRscooby 08-27-2004, 03:03 AM oh, have you tried checking out the "Past Z Cars" forum? dunno if there's a lot of info, but worth a shot. Amigo1107 08-27-2004, 03:04 PM where would you get an RB20 clip for 1500... i'm not saying that you're BSing i just want to know........ sRscooby 08-27-2004, 05:53 PM i just google searched "rb20det front clip price" and found one at $1500 as the first search match, it's not a solid figure, just how much they *can* go for, quality = ?? Amigo1107 08-27-2004, 10:30 PM oh i see. i had just never seen a clip like that, that was that cheap so i was just curious. thanks for the info. 81_280zx 08-28-2004, 10:40 PM I seen my friends 280zx a 83 he has a Rb25det single turbo. I wanna try a twin turbo something new you know? So where can i find the motor and the rb25det trans? can you give me a site. 81_280zx 08-28-2004, 10:42 PM Also I emailed mckinleysports. They say a RB26dett from a r34 would cost 16000 without a trans. And a R33 RB26dett would be 7500 with a RB25det trans 81_280zx 08-28-2004, 10:45 PM What else would i need for the swap. mouts and etc? rps13freak 08-28-2004, 10:51 PM det is singal turbo and dett is twin notice the t and tt. 81_280zx 08-29-2004, 06:38 AM i know wut the engine code is. Thanks for tryng to help with that. sRscooby 08-29-2004, 12:15 PM you should just email mckinley motorsports about what's needed, i'm sure they'd be knowledgable. logik23 08-29-2004, 09:15 PM Basically you need the engine, tranny, mounts, driveshaft and some kind of engine harness that can connect the engine to the car, i dunno, how custom it would have to be. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
