Hi I own a 1981 280zx TURBO...it's all stock right now. People have been saying throw in a RB motor. But the problem is I don't know which RB motor will be good for my 280zx and which tranny do I use. Because I know the skyline tranny is a 4wd and my 280zx is RWD. So what I want to know is which motor and tranny to use. And can anyone give me price range and a list of things needed for the completion of swapping the old 280zx motor with the RB motors and tranny

not all skyline trannies were 4wd

you could use either a rb20det, rb25det, or rb26dett with an rb25det transmission, those will all be RWD

prices:

rb20det motorset ~ approx. $1000
rb20det front clip ~ approx. $1500

rb25det motorset ~ approx. $2500
rb25det front clip ~ approx. $3000

rb26dett motorset ~ approx. a lot (not sure)
rb26dett front clip ~ approx. a lot more (not sure)

how the installation goes, i'm not too sure, heh, i have no clue about the 280zx, but those are the engines that are available to you from the RB series

where would you get an RB20 clip for 1500... i'm not saying that you're BSing i just want to know........

i just google searched "rb20det front clip price" and found one at $1500 as the first search match, it's not a solid figure, just how much they *can* go for, quality = ??

I seen my friends 280zx a 83 he has a Rb25det single turbo. I wanna try a twin turbo something new you know? So where can i find the motor and the rb25det trans? can you give me a site.

Also I emailed mckinleysports. They say a RB26dett from a r34 would cost 16000 without a trans. And a R33 RB26dett would be 7500 with a RB25det trans

What else would i need for the swap. mouts and etc?

det is singal turbo and dett is twin notice the t and tt.

you should just email mckinley motorsports about what's needed, i'm sure they'd be knowledgable.

Basically you need the engine, tranny, mounts, driveshaft and some kind of engine harness that can connect the engine to the car, i dunno, how custom it would have to be.
