I was looking into buying a vehicle at a Wholesale lot, and not sure if that's considered a dealership or not. I was wondering if they require you to pay a state tax? That's one of the reasons why I would like to buy from a private party, that way i don't have to pay some $1,000+ for state tax. Thanks.

BTW, the wholesale lot I was looking at is www.cal-auto.com

All taxes are paid for by the buyer, usually at the dealer or when you go to register the car. At least in NY that is how the system works or in Florida. Pay sales tax on the purchase price or special use tax or value tax. Some how the taxman will collect his dues.
