I currently have a 98' Dodge Ram 1500 I bought it a few months ago with 58,000 miles and it now has 68,000 and have already put $350 for a trac bar, $400 for tie rods and wheel bearings. How Solid is the suspension in this year dodge ram. And also my dad owns a 98' RAM Van that has the same engine and at 70,000 miles he has a piston that wont fire. I am debating on selling and getting something different like a 2000 RAM or F150 or possible a 2001 Durango. I just need to know if 98' rams are commonly lemons and should sell before major problems or if it is uncommon things. Thanks, tjstepan

Replacing those things are normal maintinence on your Dodge. How long they last depends on how the truck is used (ie. plow truck, 4 wheeled, heavy payloads, etc.). You'll find that the F series Fords are known for the tie rods falling out while driving so they aren't any better. As far as the piston in the van I don't think that is too common. This is the first instance I have heard. Hope this helps.
