91 Jeep Cherokee. Feeling really bad!Jcbk101 08-26-2004, 04:24 PM Hello everyone! Ok, right to the problem! I went to start my jeep again after about a month sitting and it started fine. I let it idle for about 5 minutes then it shut off. I turned the key back and went to turn the key back on and I didn't hear the fuel pump come on. So my problems is still here. I can turn the engine over for hours and it will not start. If I put direct power to the fuel pump it will pump fuel. But if I turn the ignition, it will NOT pump fuel. Any idea what this could be, please? Anybody!!! Oh yeah, after about a day of sitting it will start up again and then back to doing the crazy stuff. Dale Aeppli 08-26-2004, 05:18 PM Hello everyone! But I don't know what to do with it or how I tell if the part is defective. =[ But great to get some response. =] Dale Aeppli 08-26-2004, 08:13 PM I found that part. THe thing I found was ceramic and it had two wires with plugs on the ends. Hop ethat is correct... Well, I tried all the relays that are the same as the fuel pump relay and all of them did the samething. No power to that part you told me about. I'm just upset now because it all started with a bad fuel filter and now I have a dump problem that I can't figure out. Makes no sense to me. HI, UNDER NEATH THE ROW OF RELAYS LOOK AND SEE IF THERE ARE ANY FUSSIBLE LINKS, THEY LOOK LIKE A PIECE OF PLASTIC IS WRAPPED AROUND THE WIRE ITSELF THEY ARE CLEAR IN COLOR. IF THERE ARE ANY TRY PULLING ON EACH ONE, IF IT FEELS LIKE IT STRECHES THE LINK IN THAT WIRE IS BLOWN AND THE LINK WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. HOLLER BACK WITH RESULTS DALE jeepman600@aol.com I think I should also mention this to you. When I am able to start the jeep it will run for about 5 minutes. Then all of a sudden the jeep would shut down. The fuel pump will then act crazy. It would pump continuously non stop while the key is turned to the "ON" postion. Then sometimes it would stop, but this time it stopped and won't do anything unless I put direct power to it! Dale Aeppli 08-26-2004, 10:56 PM I think I should also mention this to you. HI, ON THE RESISTOR FOR FUEL PUMP MAKE A JUMPER WIRE WITH ALLIGATER CLIPS ON EACH END AND JUMP THE RESISTOR WON'T HURT ANYTHING. TURN KEY ON SEE IF THE FUEL PUMP RELAY CLICKS, IT WILL CLICK PUMP WILL RUN JUST ENOUGH TO PRIME THE FUEL RAIL AND HOLLER DALE jeepman600@aol.com Jcbk101 08-26-2004, 11:17 PM HI, ON THE RESISTOR FOR FUEL PUMP MAKE A JUMPER WIRE WITH ALLIGATER CLIPS ON EACH END AND JUMP THE RESISTOR WON'T HURT ANYTHING. I put a jumper wire from one side of the resitor to the other side of the resistor and nothing happened. Then I tried putting the wire on the right side ( Facing engine from drivers side ) and the other end on the battery and the pump came on. So I put the wire on the other side of the resistor and the pump came on again for that side. But no my battery is dead since I tried starting it all day long =[. Do you have an idea on what's going on? Thanks for the help again! I really appreciate it! Dale Aeppli 08-26-2004, 11:51 PM Ok. HI, TAKE BOTH WIRES OFF THE RESISTOR AND HOOK THEM TOGETHER TURN KEY SEE WHAT HAPPENS, BEFORE YOU PUT THEWIRES TOGETHER TOUCH EACH ONE WITH TEST LIGHT SEE IF EITHER ONE HAS VOLTAGE. YOU CAN BYPASS THE RESISTOR COMPLETELY IF YOU WANT IT WAS PUT IN TO QUIET DOWN THE FUEL PUMP NOISE THATS ALL. ONE OF THESE WIRES SHOULD HAVE 12 VOLTS. I tested each of the two wires on the resistor and neither had ANY current at all. When I supplied power to the wires to pump fuel, the vehicle still didn't start. So I really don't know what to do.
