I am having trouble with my ac on my 98 escort wagon. It will go for a month or two and work just fine. Then out of the blue it will not come on. It has worked fine since June, but yesterday when I left work, no cool air. I did check the fan and it came on. I have not put guages on the system as when the ac does come on I have plenty of cold air. Would appreciate any help. (Heat index will be 105 today!)

When this happens, check to see if the compressor clutch in pulled in & spinning with the drive pulley. If not, with the a/c on,Jump the low pressure switch plug end with a piece of wire to see if the compressor clutch kicks in. if so, dont leave it like this, its there to shut off the system if you have a leak & the freon gets low. Its located on the left rear part of the engine compartment. on top of the dryer(looks like a small propane bottle /w the a/c lines going in & out.)

I have a 97 Escort LX, and I just replaced the factory stereo (am/fm) to a am/fm cassette stereo, and for some reason I can not get the climax control (the middle button) to kick the air blowing cold or having heat on, I can get the vent setting (last button) working, and speed of fan (the first button) working, but not the middle knob because it goes around without stopping, is there a trick to this? Please send me a email at york_peppermints to help me get this fix since I am on fixed income and have a heart condition, anyone with help will be greatly appericated.

I have a similar problem, I have replaced the pressure switch, and the computer control module. The ac would come on and blow very cold and then quit, which lead me to think of a relay problem. Now the AC does not work at all, clutch does not engage and not able to jumper across pressure switch, any insight woulld greatly be appreciated.
