I have just re-built my 7mgte, had new seals and guides put into the head, new total seal rings, knife edged the crank and blue printed the motor, I have had my garret T4 turbo re-done as well, my problem is that when the car gets warm it bellow white smoke, and the oil pressure drops down to .5kpa at idle, and there is a lot of oil in the exhaust manifold. I am also using a copper head gasket with O-rings on the block and cylinder head, I have hit a brick wall, I have no idea what the problem is ?

white smoke is burnt coolant.
black smoke is to much fuel.
Grey smoke is good.

How many kilometres is the enigne old after the rebuild? were you gentle with the gas in the first 1000 kilometres?

Is the turbo oil lubed and water cooled or just oil lubed/cooled? Who rebuilt the turbo? Also grey smoke isn't neccisarily good, if your engine is tuned correctly and in good shape it shouldn't put out any smoke except when cold from condensation. If you were making a list for future reference then add blue smoke for burning oil. When breaking in an engine for the first time you should be very hard on it for the first few miles and minutes when the engine is first started, accel and decel constantly with hard throttle. While the honing marks from the cylinders is still on the walls so the rings will seat and wear properly. This trick has been around for ages and no one has ever had a problem or an engine go bad prematurely from doing it this way to my knowing. Theres alot more to it than that and I'm sure you'll read the rest here. :)

i always look on the start to see if the engine is good er not...after 50 miles or so the damage can already be to great to repair...but blue voor oil is a good one. but when starting the engine for the first time after a rebuild and when decelerating expect to some some blue smoke...
The way a engine is handled the first few miles, nobody can tell me what is good...

I had put in Tital seal rings, and after the third time of stripping the motor we found that the Oil rigs were not seating properly, replaced the oil ring with genuine toyota oil rings and seams to have helped the problem, however their is still a bit of smoke at idle and when pulling off.
Hopefully oncethe rings have some milage on them they will seat better, will keep you posted though. I have installed a mechanical oil pressure guage, at idle its .9kpa, and at 2800rpm its just below 3kpa, is this correct ?

Thanks for all the info and help, much appreciated.

It appears that when your car overheated the head gasket shrunk allowing coolant to escape into the combustion chamber. Usually the symptoms are more pronounced when the engine is at normal operating temperature. :smokin:
