Okay, I have a 1994 Toyota Camry 2dr Coupe with the 1MZ-FE 3.0 v6...

My problem is... well...
If anyone has any idea what the following symptoms may be... lemme know...

1. Hesitation as the RPM's are going up (wierd feeling every 1000rpm's or so)
2. Hits brick wall at 4k RPM's (which is right below where it shifts into 2nd)
3. Inability to go over 85 the majority of the time (cannot get it to 100 unless i hold down the pedal FOREVER)
4. When I first turn on the car in the morning, and floor it, it drives like a metro, but slower... then it wont shift past 4k rpm's so i have to put it into L Gear in order to get the rev's up.
5. Slightly rough idle due to Liquid ran Fan
6. Just overall Lack of power over entire power band except at around 5k rpm's (still slow then though)

I checked the following:
Compression Tested - Perfect
Cat - Gutted, still have problem
Cleaned Intake Manifold - No Effect
Vaccuum Leaks - None
No Check Engine Light
Checked Coils/Wires - Perfect
Spark plugs slightly worn - REPLACED
Tested MAF - Checked out OK

PLEASE HELP ME!

Check spark timing? PCV valve? EGR valve? Could the timing belt have jumped a tooth? When was timing belt last replaced?

Does this car have a knock sensor? Sounds mostly like timing is retarded or not advancing as the engine revs.

Also, I had a similar problem with my 90 4 cyl camry. When you did the compression check, did you disconnect the wires going to the coils. If you didn't there is a possibility the coils are burnt. It happened to me and I had to replace the coil. The car still ran, but very poorly especially as the RPM got higher. You could see the visible burn marks on the coil after they were replaced.

The coils have to either have the secondary leads (spark plug leads) grounded during a compression check, or the leads going to the primary coils disconnected, otherwise, as you turn the engine, if there's no spark plug attached, the spark jumps across the windings of the coils instead, damaging them.

I'm not sure how to change the timing on my Coil Ignition, No Distributor, and I checked my compression correcty... My problem is more in the Lower RPM Range though

Well, I checked the timing and it all checks out okay, only one minor vaccuum leak, and its nothing thats gonna effect the power this significantly, throttle position sensor perhaps? this is really starting to piss me off

You may have a problem getting fuel. Check the pressure and flow. Replace the fuel filter if flow is low. Replace the pressure regulator, then the filter, then the pump if pressure is low.

i had a similar problem with mine only mine didnt go over 6200 rpms but know it does again, and can get into red line LOL

My '94 2-door coupe (2.2) also hesistates in the first gear (auto) just before shifting into second gear... Seems like it does it worse before it gets hot.....

i would start with the fuel filter, my 93 had some similar probs. and i replaced the filter... cleared it right up

Well, I replaced the fuel filter, didnt work at all... Gonna test the fuel pressure regulator, dont wanna go so far as to replace the fuel pump if its not needed... the fuel filter didnt change anything except the car starts up a bit quicker now

Please inspect the primary coil resistance using the ohmmeter. Measure the resistance (when engine COLD) between the positive and negative terminal. Resistant should be between 0.54-0.84 ohms. If not within specifications, replace the ignition. One of the coil i believe is bad, they are not cheap so check carefully. Bytheway Disconnect negative battery and wait 90 seconds before start to work.
