hey got a pioneer amp, little one, hamie-down, not more than 200 watts. but i wanted to hook it up to my speakers. i have power going in and the ground connected. the cd plater is also hooked up. i have the amp running to one speaker just to see if it would work and nothing is happeneing. keep in mind this speaker is not attached to the cd player accept thru the amp. is that right?
thanks

i have no instrustion manual for the amp, i guess i could look on line, ill get to that.
and on the amp are five wires coming out to attach to two speakers or whatever there are two sets of two ( = 4) then a lone blue wire
what is it and what do i do with it?

Check the fuses
Do you have the the remote wire connected (might be that long blue wire)

the remote wire goes from your amp to your deck. It tells the amp to turn on. its usually a blue wire. at least all the ones i have seen are blue. and yes the speakers connect to the amp..not the deck.

ok that helps more but where on the deck does it connect? becasue it wouldnt connect to the car but to the deck, and i dont see any free wires except a blue wire for power antena.

On some cars the power antenna wire can be used you need a signal to the wire when the headunit is on. What you dont want is a wire that turns on only when the radio turns on and turns off when the cd player is on.

If it's an aftermarket headunit there should be a blue wire with a white stripe, this is the amp remote wire and it will be exactly what you want. If you have a stock headunit, I would use any wire in the dash that turns on and off with the car. This can be your ignition wire going to the headunit, power wire going to the cigarette lighter plug (if yours turns on and off with the ignition), etc. You have a lot of choices, you just have to find one that fits your needs and tap into it.

ok.... well that was a short lived feeling of sucess.... after running it all for about five minutes there was some crackling coming from the speakers so i just turned the cd player off when i heard it. im triple checking all my connections but would that be it?

ok iw as talking to a friend who knows about this stuff but i was talking to him on a comp and it crashed...(not having much luck with electronics lately) but he started asking me if my wattage matched up i said yea im pretty sure but the amp is a hamie down and the guy told me it was 35Wx4 or sumthin like that so i figured i was good cuz my speakers have a max 150 and the amp is hooked up to 2 for now but soon 4.
its a pioneer GM-X302
and i cant find info anywhere to double check what i was told cuz its not witten anywhere on the amp

Are your RCAs and power wire on the same side?
Check your ground, make sure it is tight

you mean the same side of the amp?
i got it all goin now,i played withthesetting on the amp andgot the crackiling to stop. but only the leftsideis working, no theright. ive tryed everything ican think of, when i attached the speakers back tothe head unit ( so they were not attached tothe amp at all) then they worked, so somewhere between the amp and the speakers theres a prob, but its notin the stock wiring.

No I meant that did you run the power wire and the rca's on the same side of the car

they are both goin down the center console, do they interfere with each other or sumthin? cuz its bugginout or sumthin. im about to just light it all on fire or sumthin. it keeps turnin off and on.

how were your speakers connected to your amp?
were they soldered, crimped on terminal lugs, bare wire, etc.?

ScorTmobileR

crimped termianl plugs

a common problem I see alot is when somebody crimps the lugs on so tight they cut thru most if not all of the conductors, that might be something to double check

ok ill check that thanks

ScorTmobileR
08-24-2004, 03:14 PM
yea that wasnt it i redid them but its wire now, i didnt have any more crimps. i still cant figure it out

are you sure there was no power avail. on your steady hot, because if you short it to ground while the amp is grounded, 9 times out of 10 that's pretty much a wrap for your amp...try getting a local shop to bench test it for you, they'll do it for a couple of bucks, (about $5 - $10) for their time

If you short circuit a hot, (live) wire to the chassis ground of your system, and your components are chassis grounded, that would be the same thing as shorting a hot wire directly onto the chassis of your components...a local shop can put your amp on a test panel to troubleshoot all of it's functions
