I have an 88 Buick Lesabre 3.8L 200K on it and the transmission works very good with he engine but every time I slow down to a stop and it's almost at 0 the car jerks once and I know that it's coming from the transmission it's like there is a gear missing from 2 too 1 I've been driving the car for 6 months like this and nothing happened yet will this be a major thing to fix what could it be and should I bother with it or it's better to get it done not to have any major breakdowns later on please get back to me. Thank you.

Check your fluid, make sure it isn't low (start motor, leave tranny in park). If it is brown, and smells like burned rubber, You need to REBUILD, not repair, the tranny. that points to the clutch assembly(ies). Check for tiny pieces of metal as well. However, it sounds like it is the clutch itself. The 1-3 clutch servo might be going bad. At any rate, I would suggest having it entirely rebuilt, unless that was done withing the last 80,000 miles. By the way, just changing the fluid will not help. if the fluid is low, put a quart of a transmission rejuvenator in it. that might help.
