Hi all,

I need some help. I have a 94 Honda Accord that seems to have a problem with the cooling fan. The cooling fan will only come on when I turn on my AC. If I let my car idle, the cooling fan will not come on. As soon as I turn on my AC, both the condensor fan and the cooling fan comes on. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Could be a relay-if both fans kick in when ac is activated I bet it's the relay.

Not sure about that. As far as I recall, there is one relay per fan. So if the relay were bad, the fan wouldn't come on at all.
First, are you sure the fan needs to run? Does the motor overheat? If it DOES, then I'd suspect the coolant temp sensor.
(Turning on the A/C should always make both fans run, even when the motor is cold).

I am having this same problem! My 94' Honda Accord will overheat in idle if I don't have the A/C on. I can actually lower the temp by flipping on outside air and turning the knob to heat. But the easiest way to cool it down is just to turn the A/C on. the A/C can be on hot or cold, doesn't matter.

Any ideas?

Then your cooling fan isn't running. Might be the fan. You could try switching the relays - On the 1993, they are against the inside of the driver's side front fender. Don't know about the '94. If you swap them and the condenser fan no longer comes on when you turn the a/c on, it's the relay.

If not that, then it may be the fan motor.
