Code Reading Question

Does anyone know how to bypass the wires to get the check engine light to flash the codes. I can do this with my Subaru. I have a 1987 Nissan Sentra . I rebuilt the Carburetor , cleaned the EGR vavle. but it still bogs down and won`t keep an idle.I don`t know what to check next. Tom

If you find out let me know it sounds like im having the same problem. my mechanic said it was bad float, 3 floats later im right back to it even tried cali emmissions float. Do you get the black smoke out the tail pipe too? we put a scanner on it it didnt give us any help. so dont bother with your wires. mean time my mech says replace i cant even find carb to replace with and i need this car i depend on it to get to work please help!!!!!!
