people always bitch about understeer what if you just upgrade the suspension as well

that could make it better,. if you do it right and the shocks will be able to take the weight of the new motor in. also you can beef up the suspension by getting larger sway bars and strut bars.

It's not JUST the suspension that's the problem ... you also have an extra 200 or so pounds in the front ...

It's not so much weight/suspension, but weight distribution. All the suspension geopmetry in the world is merely going to be correcting the transplant, not improving it. Straight-line, the H22A rocks, cornering, it will get owned in a motorkhana etc.

In an EG or EK chassis, it's really not that bad..... the whole weight distribution/cornering problems are in reality, only PROBLEMS in an EF Chassis.... I know of a few people with EG/EK H22 hybrids and they handle just fine.....

and....the H22 weights 385lbs compared to a 215lb D16Y8 motor. Just go with a B18C1 or B16A.:D

What kind of chassis does an 88 CRX have? would it be able to take an H22? what about if i beefed up the suspension. and what do you mean by understeer? what would the car do?

it would turn less to put it in simple terms. i heard that it lessens your turning abilities also. i was watching this thing on tv that made a good point. companies make cars a certain way to perform the way they want them to and if you change a part of the car then it messes up the "formula" of the car. such as the ENGINE. and the h22a is a big difference unlike the b16 which is the same shit and the b18 which is not much bigger

Not to mention that I understand that engine clearance is an issue with the 22 as I understand. I'd go a nice B18 w/turbo and a good suspension package and the CRX would run sweet.

A '88 CRX has the ED/EF chassis. EF for Japan, ED for everywhere else except for Europe where it is an EE I understand. EF is the convention that everyone uses for the 2G CRX/4G Civic. Example: My old 4G GL Civic was a JHMED VIN (J=Japan, H=Honda, M=O'seas Market, Chassis designation ED). My SiR has the VIN starting with EF only.

Basically, H22 in a car of this vintage = heartache and a car that will never quite be what you want it to be. I'tll be fast, but not agile, regardless of suspension mods. Anyone that tells you that a H22 powered EF will motorkhana or outrun a B16/B18 on the track is a liar or someone only interested in straight line handling.

someone please varify but I heard that the B series motors lean forward was where the H22 leans back and thats also the cause for understeer.

This is true...they do lean different ways...

Ya know...hte weight difference between the H22 and the B series is pretty big...but if you would drop an extra 200 lbs in the front end it woul give you a really good reason to drop a huge ass system in the back end!

He's right, a fast car is not complete without a huge system.

theres a guy around where I live that has a 90 or so accord with a H22 and he runs mid to high 13s but he also has alot of engine work done on top of $5000 worth of suspension to keep his car running stright hes very happy with but I think he just wasted that much more money that could of been put into a B16-B18 turbo that would have ran 11-12s

ohwell its all in what you want
