I have read a number of threads found in this forum on this topic and can't seem to get a complete answer for what I need. So here goes and please bear with me.....

I have a 2001 Passat with 74K on the odometer - rear pads and rotor are shot, while the fronts appear OK with reasonable pad wear left. I am a DIY without specialized tools, but a quick look at the rear with the tires off leads me to believe I can do this in a couple of hours. Can someone comment on the following points related to the R&R of the Passat rear brakes:

1. The brake caliper is connected to the rear axle/assembly via two Allen head bolts - correct?
2. The e-brake is connected to the caliper by a single bolt that does not require to be removed - correct?
3. Once the two bolts from #1 are removed how is the pad removed and the brake piston recessed into the cylinder? There are a couple of threads in the forum on this and I would appreciate some illumination. Do I have to do anything with the 2 caliper pins guiding th pad?
4. With the exception of the e-brake connection, is this process essentially the same for the fronts (if I ever do them)?

The rear caliper piston must be pushed back in while being rotated clockwise. There are a number of special tools available to perform this operation.
