I just did a y8 swap to my b7 head (see other thread for info)
I'm still waiting on the p28 ECU but I rigged a "vtec" button. When the engine is off and you press it you can hear the solenoid click and when the i press it going wide open throttle at around 5,200rpm i can hear it clearly. This morning was the first time I tried in 3rd gear... the car was pulling along pretty good taking forever to get up to speed with the old dx tranny... i pressed it at 5,2000rpm and the engine screamed but the pull stoppped... so i let go and the engine picked up again...

Now my question is: Is it because I don't have the ECU yet and it's getting extra air but not more gas?? I checked my oil and everything before I left this morning and my engine was up to running temp when i pressed teh vtec button, or could it be other factors, such as my dx throttle body? dx header?

I would say it's the ecu. It shouldn't be sending anymore gas at a certain rpm because it's not a v-tec ecu. Get the right ecu and it should work.

When did it stop pulling, those cams only make power so high then it flats.

well without pressing the button it'll stop pulling at around 4,500rpm but it'll keep up the speed climb but if i press the button it'll almost stop pulling.

I got the ECU and the wires hooked up. I got rid of the dumb button a long time ago. I was asking if there was anything else I should check because the car feels weaker when vtec hits with the ECU.
