IT isn't working for saturn

Thats one way of putting it. Aparently their stablemate in Europe is unloved aswell.
Maybe its the size, or feature content for the money. I have never seen an option/pricing sheet, so I am speculating.

I thouroughly disagree with both of you. I think they are targeting the wrong market(s) in the wrong way.

The L series was brought out without a lot of press. It was targeted at the Camry etc.. for only a short period of time. There is a serious contest between the two, and personally I would take the L series over a Camry anyday.

The S-Series is aimed at the college student market. This is a very small market. More and more older people have realized the value of the S series, and are buying them like hotcakes. Maybe remarketing it to that crowd would help, but I think that taking the SC and doing some upgrades to put the output around at least 150hp, and remarketing it to the Ricky Racer crowd would do wonders. It worked for the Focus, and it is the biggest POS to ever leave an assembly line.

You kinda had me until that Focus comment. There's nothing wrong with the Focus, it's a very nice car.

When the new S-Series (or ION or whatever they call it) comes out in about a year, Saturn will get another chance to launch the brand. Hopefully, with the new VUE coming out soon, they'll have more substantial products to support the brand. Too bad the new L-Series is so far off.

I'm not speaking out of my butt when I speak of the Focus. I fell for the propaganda on the car and bought a SE w/ the Z tech motor. I could list volumes on the problems with the car. I have owned Escorts that I have been happier with. I gave the car back to Ford after 40,000 miles. I have always been a Ford fan, but the Focus is nothing short of a corporate B.J. The best car by far I ever owned was my 95 SW2.

Yes, the Focus has some major minor quality problems. Little things break that may render the car in-operable. Too bad, cuz' otherwise it is quite good.

I used to love my Pinto's! There wasn't another 4 banger out there at the time that could touch mine. Lots of fond memories. Lots of twisted unibodies too.

Saturs do suck. They are sooo damn ugly of a car. The hyundai's are looking better than them. If they had some kind of styling then they might have a chance. They need to fire the designer.

Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone's tastes are different. You may think your girlfriend (wife) is the most beautiful thing on the face of the earth, and I may think she looks like a can of rotted tuna fish... and visa versa.

That's why they don't sell. Most people don't like em. So to the eyes of most people, they suck. Man I take that back. They don't suck, they just lack most of the characteristics people are looking for.

I don't know, I like the style of all of them S, L, Vue. I think it is distict, which isn't bad. What I don't like is bland, like Camry and Accord.

I don't know about the camry and accord being bland. We'll maybe the camry. I personally wouldn't even compare them 2. Saturn resale value sucks to. I think it is just the taillights, so ugly. The whole back end. My opinion. You may see something I don't.

They are kinda pricey, and that is the biggest factor when buying a car for people who buy these kinds of cars.

Saturn. They others are also pricey, but people know Camry and Accord. Plus, they have real names, not "L-type"

Maybe, the trend of S and L series being the names of the car is on it's way out. This being evident by the Vue, the Ion and the Sky. Maybe, like you said giving the cars "names" will make a difference.

Beautiful ride!! I don't car much for the white dash panels, but I wouldn't kick it out of my driveway!!

I sold my 97 SL2, I fell in love with it, the handles real great and they say they smoke at the SCCA races.
I sold it for a 2002 L200 with full options, For what I paid for it was way less then a Honda, plus I would never buy a Honda but thats another story.
I love the car, my commute is an hour drive, so I wanted something big, but then I fell in love with British cars and missed my stick shift , so I bought a Triumph TR6.

Okay well here's what I have to say, I used to own a 1991 Chrysler La Baron with a 3.0 turbo charged engine doin' about 250 horses that could cook a lot of shit that was stock... It was a great car for me to screw around with because I'm a crazy ass driver and I love driving that way. I loved the fact it was a convertable. Well one night I was racing this honda right, honda lost control at like 95 MPH and hit the rear right side of me. I spun about 6 times is what I herd, all I know is that I was scared as hell and my car was completly screwed up... Well after my parents got pissed off at me they said they were goin' to go buy me a car that I would pay for but they were goin' to pick it out for me. They came home with the 2002 Saturn L100. Ever sense that day I've been so pissed off cuz I really want somethin' fast and sporty lookin' and I got pretty much the exact opposite. But all I can say is for as crazy of a driver as I am, that car is holding up great... I haven't had one problem yet and I've owned the car sense Febuary and I can't even tell you how many times I've spun it around corners at 50 MPH or more and got the car to two wheels. Just recently I considered buying a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 6-speed manual... Because they're cheep and they look good... But then again, it is a Hyundai and eveyone knows that they arn't that well built and I seriously considered buying it til I thought about how I drive and realized I'd probably tear that car about in less then a few months. So all in all I'd just like to say that the 2002 Saturn L100 isn't everything that I'd like in a car but it's definitly everything it should be for a Saturn.

All on 87 Octane. The same L81 motor is used in the Saab (gets a Turbo).

It'll take many cars rated at 40+ hp more. The transmission in this car is perfectly matched (unlike most of it's Japanese counterparts); it almost feels connected to your brain at times. To really appreciate this car you need to take an off-ramp onto the highway and get it up to 90mph. It does this almost effortlessly - AC Running, car loaded with people - don't matter.

Ok, aside from the vastly underrated powertrain .....

It handles great...even with the sh_tty Affinity HP tires it comes with ...granted this isn't a Camry, you will feel the road - but I like that about the car.

Interior - First year sucked, but three years later in 2002, it's pretty tight and the plastics look great. Some of the better stuff I've seen from GM.

Also, how about ABS, Traction control, Side Curtain Airbags and a great little six speaker stereo. Also, nothing but oil changes and tire rotations till 100k !

Top that with 0% APR for 5 years.

All of this is standard for just a touch over 20k.

Is it a panacea for performance mid-size ? nope, the M-5 holds that honor. However, this is a great little car and some of the bashing it takes from outsiders is completely unwarranted. The car simply lacked the proper marketing.

Whats not working? The Car line in gerneral? While they obviously are amongst the last to jump on the performance wagon, they are not done by any means.

2004 Will bring a Modded "VUE" as part of the "RED LINE" series.

The stock engine will remain the "slightly buzzy" GM 3.0 ltr V6. However if you decide to go with RED LINE trim, the ride will move along via a newly aquired batch of 3.5 ltr DOHC V6 tuned down to a modest 250 HP.
Where does the engine come from. (HONDA) Anything in the current year bearing the 3.5 ltr badge is where it's from. (0-60 in 5.7 to 6.2 seconds, has not been officiated yet.) Check the market BRO for any other SUV that will touch that in its class. :nono:

How about the 'ION' in "REDLINE" trim. Guess what? Mid 2004. 2700 lbs
200 HP. 2.0 ltr SAAB block. Special pistons for the boost, 5 spd (opel/SAAB heritage) 4 wheel disk, Multi-link rears, ground effects.
GM has even made sure to enhance the main bearings to support the load of the super charger. (which making modest boost as stock can be modded for an easy 40-50 hp add-on.) Lets see, 2700 lbs / 250hp =10.8 lbs per hp. All factory stock.

But you are right bro, Saturn has "flopped" or you are welcome to think so as you dissappear in my rear view mirror.

I take it you havent read about the Ecotechs 200+ HP mods availble through the dealer (with warranty) and the 400HP versions using GM dealerparts. Oh yeah, and the 800 and 1200 HP version using the stock block and 85% dealer parts..

Go to the dealer and check out it's quite decent enginerring genius (for a domestic) and decent build quality

Reminder: I hate 99.9% of all GMs, but facts are proof...

My wife picked out her Saturn 2000 LS-2.She loves the car.She loves everything about it! When we bought it in January 5th,2000 we got a 5 year warantee,and they've fixed everything that it needed, including a Crank Position Sensor...it might still be under warantee.

I gotta ask:Where's the thermostat? Someone at the dealer told her there is no thermostat.

The engine is Aluminum, so I'm getting concerned about the thermo.

Info: 2000 Saturn LS2, L81 3.0L V6, 76,035 Miles.

Also:Time for a timing belt?
