Anyone with an Automatic Turbo or anyone have any knowledge on the subject?

few questions...*** keep in mind this is only for daily driving and occasional racing***

I was thinking of getting the Greddy Turbo kit and keeping it at the preset boost level (5.5 psi) for my stock internals. Do you think it would be fine? Also how would it work with the autotranny? Would the tranny hold up? since your foot will always be on the gas while the ecu shifts gears for you..will it keep spooling up ? I thought about supercharging with the JRSC unit but read and heard stories about em so i changed my mind to the Greddy Turbo unit..Also what would be the "necessities" for the turbo kit? meaning if your money situation was tight and you only had enough money to afford the turbo kit and 2 other things that are essential for the set up..what would it be? i know i can go a little without the intercooler..i was thinking of getting turbo timer and fuel pressure regulator or fuel rail. Would Vtec be a big problem with the turbo? i heard it might cause some problems..I dont wanna swap out the engine or autotranny..reason being is i want to be different know what i saying ? i know im not going to beat any big v8's out there or anything i just want to give my car a little more kick and be able to beat or hang with GSR's..

Well I just wanted to give you my quick opinion on one of the things you asked about. You said you could only get a couple more things on top of the turbo...forget the turbo timer-just let your car cool down before you shut it off. Running a turbo on a vtec is not a problem. Running a turbo on an automatic shouldn't be a problem cuz I've seen turbo's on lots of autos(but I can't be 100% sure if it's ok) As far as what else to do...at least a fuel pressure regulator, prolly a fuel rail, boost gauge(unless it comes with the kit:rolleyes: ) Do you have anything done to it now?

So far what i've done to my car is in my sig..performance wise..just intake header and exhaust...all stock internals..i've heard 5.5 psi is fine with stock internals..

I would go with the fuel rail - personally
Would Vtec be a big problem with the turbo?
don't think so

AUTOs & turbos work fine together; look at Grand Nationals & Syclone/Typhoons. you will have constant boost & no loss of power when shifting gears. you can power brake, when racing, & reach peak boost early in the RPMs.

if anything, getting a www.levelten.com tranny upgrade can help.

Way back when, I emailed Jackson racing about using their supercharger with an auto tranny. They said it should hold up fine, but suggested getting a transmission cooler upgrade. I know it isnt a turbo, but it should not be all that different. Also, Ive always heard that a fuel rail is not so essential until you start getting into more serious modification. On the other hand, I rarely see any forced induction set up without a fuel pressure regulator. I know this is alot of second hand info, but I hope it helps.

Get a tranny cooler with a fan and fan shroud... don't rely on the radiators fan to cool the oil cooler and the trans fluid since the radiator fan isn't always on... unless you rig it to do so.

Keep the stock oil cooler hoses hooked up to the radiator base or where ever the stock cooler is.

B&M I found does a great job of dissapating heat quickly once the fan is turned on or when you are driving.

you mean you dont have auto tranny cooler? OMFG, get the oil cooler for like 40 bucks form summit and some erls fittings and hook that sucker up. It took me like 45 mins to do it all.
The only thing that will kill your auto is neutral-drop or heat.

Well a BOV still work good w/ auto/turbo? Does the throttle being wide open at all times, does that affect the BOV? Thanks for the info :D
