preping engine for turboteg94 08-13-2004, 04:06 PM i've read that you should prepare your engine for a turbo... now i have a gsr with 135xxx on it and was wondering what i should do to prep my engine to handle the turbo...also what type of turbo would you recommend ...thanks .p.s. not an unlimited budget haha far from it but i dont kno my limit now so dont ask just in reason... boosted k20 08-13-2004, 04:36 PM well thats alot of miles to slap on a turbo. i would rebuild the bottom end first. put in some new pistons, rods, rod bearings....the whole 9 yards. Also get a Block Guard for some extra safety. ur gonna need to upgrade ur fuel system too, bigger fuel pump, injectors, a FMU adj. fuel pressure regulator. a simple T3/T4 turbo will do u good justice got v-tec? 08-16-2004, 01:48 AM the turbo size will depend on your hp goal. if your looking around 350whp+ i would get je pistons(9.0:1cr) eagle rods, new valvetrain(port flow,ferrea,supertech...) send your block to get sleeved.(i reccomend darton) and get a gerret t3/t4 t67 turbo and hondata es200. and your set. teg94 08-16-2004, 03:35 PM thanks for the info... but do u guys even think i should put in a turbo with this many miles....or will the new pistons valvetrain and everything make it realiable.... also how much do u think this would all cost thanks.. got v-tec? 08-16-2004, 04:44 PM thanks for the info... but do u guys even think i should put in a turbo with this many miles....or will the new pistons valvetrain and everything make it realiable.... also how much do u think this would all cost thanks.. miles dont matter if your rebuilding your motor. je pistons&eagle rods are the strongest for the price you pay. the pistons are like $550 the rods are like $450 supertech vavletrain is around $500 hondata es200 is about $700 thats all you need if your looking to stay lower than 350whp if you want more power then send your block to darton to get sleeved thats $1500. if i were you id just buy the turbo and hondata right now, and just save tell you have plenty of money to do the rest. teg94 08-16-2004, 08:37 PM alright thanks that sounds good ....i have a verry limited knowledge about engines but do u think with help from my friend and his dad ..who works in a garage ..that i could put these on myself and then just have it tuned at redline motors or something..thanks teg94 08-16-2004, 08:57 PM also gsr's have high compression right so would the rodsa nd pistons and everything lower it for turbo or what ?? boosted k20 08-16-2004, 10:03 PM Ur gonna need to buy low compression pistons for your motor. If ur going turbo, but will only run small amounts of boost like 8-12 PSI then u should get some pistons with a compression ratio of about 9:1 Rating 08-17-2004, 03:00 AM i donno about 8 - 12, on a stock internal motor. 7 is more than likely a max for stock b18. You might last a couple months with anything over 7, but dont plan on it lasting long :) <<--- Trust Me Ive Been Through It. Of course I do like to give it hell. Do the build before you bolt it on, otherwise use low lbs. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
