red spots on tan malibu paint!Harryc8786 08-10-2004, 01:29 AM Ok I have a 98 malibu, and its that tan type color. I try to keep it clean, jw if anyone else noticed this. You can't see these little spots from far away, but when i wash my car and look near the lower region of my car around the bottom of thedoors and bottom trim theres small red/brown spots. At first i thouht they were rust, but i can scratch them off with my nail. The sponge wont take them off and theres too many to pick off, im wondering if anyone knows what it is? Also is there some sponge course enough to get them off without damaging the paint? Any input appreciated. Thanks... BeatnikTermite 08-11-2004, 03:20 PM Have you tried Bug & Tar remover. This should remove anything organic (blood, food) or petrolium (paint, transmission fluid, oil) based without scratching the paint. You could also try using a teflon pot/pan scraper. These are sold in grocery stores for about a buck and remove things like this wonderfully. Harryc8786 08-12-2004, 12:20 AM If i try one of those do you think it will damage the original paint? BeatnikTermite 08-12-2004, 08:20 AM No. Bug & Tar remover is formulated for car paint finishes (even clear coat) and works really well. I would try this first, since it only costs a few dollars, and can also be used to remove all of the road grime from the front of the car. The teflon scraper is not and harsher than your fingernail as long as you don't push really hard. If you try this, make sure the car is clean though, because you don't want the scraper to be pushing dirt along the paint. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
