GM 12-Bolt Differential - Carrier 3 or 4 Series?

How can I visually determine if the Posi carrier in my 12-bolt is a 3-series, (designed for 3.73 or lower gear ratio), or 4-series (3.90 & numerically higher gear) carrier? I know it has a Richmond 4.10 Ring & Pinion gearset in it now, but they make a 4.10 that will fit a 3-series carrier, and a different set for the 4-series. Can I measure the ring gear mounting flange, or some other dimension, to identify if my carrier is a 3 or 4 series?
Need to order new gears, don't know which carrier I have. Thanks.
