1996 Ford Escort Tries To Start But Doesn't Fire??? Help please...jps_nerd_83 08-08-2004, 05:56 PM Hello everyone, I was driving down the road at about 65 mph and all of a sudden my car kind of jerked and then just started slowing down almost as if I had just taken my foot completely off of the gas so I pulled over shut the car off and poped the hood to find out that no fuel was going to the engine thought it may be the fuel pump so I checked it, it wasn't working so I disconnected the batter for like 3 minutes and then plugged it back in and then the fuel pump was working I changed the fuel filter as well and I am getting fuel pressure up to the engine now the car sounds like its trying to start normally but it just won't fire up I don't know what to do from here so if any of you have any ideas please let me know! :) thank you for you time! josh GTP Dad 08-08-2004, 09:12 PM Check the timing belt! Sounds like it may have broken while you were driving or you may have lost a few teeth from the belt which throws it so far out of time it won't start. butch100 08-09-2004, 01:48 AM How did you determine that you were not getting any fuel when the car first stopped running?? I would agree with GTP dad and check out the timeing belt. Do you know when it was changed?? how many miles are on the car now? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
