Its vin is 18, there were 17 pre production models that had the vins stamped on them first. It was auctioned and the lady that won it owns a car show room for exotic cars. all the profits went to Rons chossen charity

I just can't bring mysel to like it. It just doesn't compare to other cars over $200,000. I am sure that it is a blast to drive, but it really doesn't look that special.

My post was in reference to the looks. You didn't post anything above to address that.

No your right the looks are totally a persons own choice, i like it cos it has a 6 foot topshell, and has a retro american look about it, (long bonnet)
Side exit exhausts, and yes sadly some parts from the SL are carry over, but those dyhedral doors are something nice!

I like the long hood, but the trunk is so short that it looks like they just gave up when they got to the back of the car. Most supercars look long all around, but this one doesn't look like a half a million $ car. In reference to your previous post about this not being a race car but a grand tourer: Is this the most expensive "grand tourer" to date?

Im not sure, but id go out on a limb and say probably.
The problem with the SLR is:
There has been no other car like it. It has super car performance, yet with the luxury of the top end merc's. So what do you compare it to? It will get beaten on top end and handling against the Enzo and Carrera GT (but only just) and the only cars with equal or more luxeres are expensive cars made to be chaeffer driven. (and yes I know my spelling is atrocias)

There is a merc like it the clk-Gtr and the clk-amg also.

CLK- AMG I can say yes to, but the CLK GTR!!!

Well I dont know what a race dtm is but the strass version (streetversion) is supposedly around 500k. less then half of the 1.2 mil clk-GTR. :dunno:

So what your saying is, the CLK has power and luxury but cost more!!!?

In a way yes but the slr is kinda raw when I looked at it electric starter A/c etc.

Yeah that part is a bit crap, taken straight out of SL territory. That is the part that lets it down, an opinion shared by many. But then thats the Merc influence for you!
