Noise in '95 Escort when put in gearbrooklyntom 08-08-2004, 09:29 AM Alright, before I take this thing in, I wanted to ask you pros! When I put my Escort in gear (and sometimes when it shifts) I get a loud "Ka-Clunk" that sounds like something on the drivers side. And it's physical, too, you can feel it! Help!! Tom butch100 08-09-2004, 02:16 AM Is this an automatic or man. tranny? It sounds like it might be a CV joint. Examine all the rubber boots that house the CV's. look for a cracked boot, they usually spew grease all over nearby areas when they go bad. Since these were desighned to be packed in grease all the time a cracked or missing boot will allow moisture and dirt to enter the joint and wear it out prematurely. brooklyntom 08-09-2004, 11:51 AM Thanks for the reply...I won't be fixing this myself....is this expensive? How about a "guess-timate?" I really appreciate your response! Tom brooklyntom 08-09-2004, 01:44 PM Oh, It's automatic, by the way! Again, thanks for your time! Tom 008 08-09-2004, 02:59 PM Could be an engine mount. Put the parking brake on, have someone look at the engine and shift it from drive to reverse a few times. If it's an engine mount you'll see the engine jump back and forth as you shift it. Replacing CV boots is the same labor as replacing the whole thing, so you might as well spring for new shafts. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
