Cosworth Escort RS...Willskyline 08-07-2004, 12:27 PM I recently visited my cousins in Europe. We traveled all over and blah-blah. What you care about: I saw the Ford Escort RS Cosworth. This is the euro-rally version of the escort. I found out that Ford basically rebuilt the escort to make it stronger and stiffer and gave it a decent engine. It has a stock turbo that puts it at about 220 hp, that could be easily bumped up by upgrading the turbo. Having checked to make sure that it was street legal in all 50 states-a big yes-I was wondering if these engines, or even the whole car, are available for purchase in the US. If anyone knows where someone can get a hold of one, I'd be grateful. I've enjoyed my escort a lot, but the escort i have can only be modified so far before people laugh at me. zx2srdotnet 08-07-2004, 08:27 PM one from 93 with aobu 30k on i is 15+k you can have a psi with 220hp turbo for less Willskyline 08-07-2004, 11:11 PM I know how much they cost, but I want to know where to get them. Thanks for the response though. Escortgal 08-16-2004, 02:39 PM I went on google.com search and there is a '95 for sale in California. Sorry so far away. There is another , but it is a replica for sale but it doesn't say where it has a 1.8liter turbo diesel engine in it. so go onto google and put in Escort rs Cosworth and a whole website will come up for one that are on sale. Escortgal 08-16-2004, 02:42 PM I think most on that site are in europe though Willskyline 08-16-2004, 09:37 PM Thanks! 92EscrtPmp 08-17-2004, 01:13 AM sorry, last time I checked the 2.2 Standard diesel Escorts only have 45hp. i should know, have 6 sitting in my front yard collecting dust. At most the Turbo diesel has 110hp. trust me, just looked @ the book! Jet-Lee 08-17-2004, 09:05 AM 45hp isn't bad, what do they have for torque? I've seen full size tractors with 45hp that can pull my car, and your car, and his car, and her car, when all are in park (or 1st gear engine off). 92EscrtPmp 08-19-2004, 11:15 AM The Diesel escorts only have 82 ft.lbs. of torque, not really meant for pulling either. You'd have more power with the gas powered SEFI motor! The 4 cylinder Diesel is just not strong enough to get out of it's own way. That is why they sit in my yard and collect dust. I don't want to get hit trying to get the things to move. Jet-Lee 08-19-2004, 12:41 PM lol....hell, sell a few of them and fix one up. Who cares how it runs, obviously you can't do much with them. Make a show car. 92EscrtPmp 09-02-2004, 04:21 PM Sorry, I don't make show cars outta junk. If it is going to look tough, it better be tough. Kindda like a dog, if it looks big and bad and growls at me, it better bite the hell outta me or I'm gonna kick it's ass. My views of a show car would be this. You can make it look as pretty as you want, but it better be able to keep up with my little 92 Scort wagon. And I'll tell you what, I go out looking for those loud cars, and those sweet looking cars just to see if they got anything under the hood. Let me tell you what, 9 times out of 10, they can't keep up. It imbarraces the crap outta someone when they are trying to impress the girl in the passenger seat. zx2srdotnet 09-03-2004, 04:12 AM up the boost and make it propane/n2o injected and you'll have a fast as hell escort lol 92EscrtPmp 09-07-2004, 03:54 PM I Don't put that junk on my cars either, sorry. If you gotta put that stuff on your car, it's Junk to start with and you need to go buy a better Ford! Now, say a engine swap would be a better idea. Switch it over to the Gas 1.9 or DOHC 2.0 even. Now that's a idea! 1.9 SEFI motors come stock w/96HP and the DOHC 2.0 comes stock w/135HP. 1.9's have better gears than the diesels and the DOHC 2.0's, so the way to go is the 1.9's. you can't convert the tranny though, so it would have to be a Engine and tranny swap, and then you gotta make a Jerry-rigg Mounting system. In other words Weild. So, Whats the use in having the damned things anyway. Too much work for someone who has no time on his hands to do the work. Plus the body style sux and is chrome and steel that make's it way half as much more than the 92 Wagon that I have. Catch my drift? They're work cars... 92EscrtPmp 09-07-2004, 03:58 PM BTW, the fastest I've ever seen a diesel scort go, and that's to the mat, is about 85MPH and it took 3 miles to get that fast, FYI... johnwaynejeep 09-08-2004, 02:51 AM If you're worried about the gearing you can always go to advance adapters and see if they can make an adapter plate to mate your 2.0 to a 1.9 tranny. I myself love the tranny behind the 1.9. It has a good highway gear and is bullet proof. 92EscrtPmp 09-19-2004, 12:25 AM Well, I wouldn't say bulletproof, that's the first and last thing to completely go out on my 92LX 5-speed wagon. it started grinding gears in every gear, eccept 4th. So I let it sit up for 3 weeks and whatcha know, it's fine! I think it had something to do with the Shifter and the shifting rods going to the tranny cause when the gears ground, the rods stuck out 2 inches. Willskyline 09-19-2004, 12:45 AM I was not talking about a 45 hp Escort deisel. I was talking about the Rally Sport (thus RS) turbo escort that had roughly 227 bhp at 6250 rpm and 220 lb. ft at 3500 rpm. Jeez. zx2srdotnet 09-19-2004, 03:11 AM and after emmissions standaerd it gets tuned down to about 180hp, making it not really worth the money unless it a garage wquen or a show car geri rs 09-24-2004, 01:48 PM I recently visited my cousins in Europe. Hello, I drive a Cosworth. You can get one from Germany or Switzerland for about 10000-17000 euro. It costs about 1000 to ship to the US, and then it will cost some for required conversions. Try www.mobile.de Its in German but easy to figure out. Go to the "suchen" tab and go. cossiepower 09-28-2004, 05:08 PM Hi I am from the UK and also drive an Escort RS Cosworth with a stage 3 conversion by Reyland. To buy a cossie they will set you back about £15,000 for one which has about 60,000 miles on the clock or one with about 15,000 - 20,000 miles on the clock you are looking to pay £20k-£22k. These in my opinion are worth every penny. With 227 bhp as standard 4x4 system as standard and tunable to about 600bhp they are great cars and will beat many cars around a track. and after emmissions standaerd it gets tuned down to about 180hp, making it not really worth the money unless it a garage wquen or a show car the cars emissions are with in guide lines so as standard you will get the full 227bhp from the car. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
