Question: Could a brake cable be rusted up? Is your brake pedal low? By that I mean have you noticed that the brake pedal travel (point of braking starts) is getting longer and longer and brakes and with less braking force force?
If so, an automatic adjuster in a rear wheel isn't working. It's located between the brake shoes at the bottom and expands the shoes when the shoes start to wear. Both of these reasons affect the parking brake travel.

My wife got impatient waiting for me to replace the front and rear brakes so she took it to NTB for the work. The parking brake can be pressed to the floor. It barely holds the van while parked on a hill with the trans in neutral (just a test). Our ’92 Caravan had a cable tightening adjustment.

Hi, I've got the same problem with my 98 GC. Just had the brakes done and they work fine but the emergency brake will not hold the van. The mechanic did seem to have some problems with setting up the rear brakes so I'm wondering if he missed something. He said that he could not get to the adjusters because the e-brake cable was in the way. Instead, he setup the brakes from the front by continually removing and reinstalling the wheel and drum. I have a Haynes manual and it states the you can access the adjuster from the rear hub. Also, it tells you to disconnect the e-brake cable at the rear equalizer prior to adjusting the shoes. Don't know it this would make a difference or not but I know that this procedure was not done. If anyone has some info or an opinion, I would be greatful. Thanks.
