Will a 92 Escort LX SEFI 1.9 fit to the tranny of a 91 Escort Pony? I Dunno Which Motor it has cause I Haven't went to look at it, but owner claims it has a 1.9, that's all he remembers. Or, Will the head off My 1.9 fit on his. He claims the only thing bad on it is Head.

91 to 96 1.9 engines should be all the same except for wiring on the motor & EGR. Some have an EGR & some dont, youll just get an engine code if you put a non EGR motor in a car with wiring for one. , but it should effect how it runs. Ive done this & it works.

My Question is will My SEFI Head fit on the 91 model, because I'm not sure it's the same motor. my Aunt has a 89 Scort with a Thottle body 1.9. far as wires go, the head doesn't have any wires. the only difference between the 3 models of 1.9's is on mine, the SEFI is run through Coil packs, and the other 2 have distributors. now the difference between the others is the HI Output or HO 1.9 GT motor has bigger badder intakes and Exhaust manifolds, and it is EFI, the other is thottlebodied. the only way I'll be able to tell I guess is to look at this Escort Pony my self.

Not sure if the 91 to 96 heads will fit the 90 on back motors. But if I had to guess id say they wouldn’t, because the older ones had a head gasket problem. I put 3 on for family & friends, & heard of many others. I didn’t hear that of the 91 to 96's. So id guess they must have changed something for the better. The GTs were 1.8's in 91 to 96... Not sure of the 90 on back.. Not sure if this helps.

There was no " HO" version of the 1.9 engine. All GT models from
91-96 used the twin cam 1.8 Mazda powerplant. The head swap
should work but check both of 'em before you start spinning wrenchs
to be sure..

I have a Chiltons that specificly has a 1.9HO motor for a Escort GT, and a good friend of mine has the `89 Escort GT with the 1.9HO motor. the manual states that it has 115-135 HP and the big difference is it has the same block just it is EFI not SEFI, meaning it has a different bore and stroke, higher compression, and instead of having the coil-pack, it has a distributor through the head that sticks out right at the spot where the coil-pack would be. Instead of the Tube-like intake it has one that more resembles the 3.8V6 and the 5.0V8's. other than that the motor is the same.

Someone must have got mad and did their homework on the Escort motors, cause noone has wrote back. The GT from 86 to 89 I know for a fact had the 1.9 HO. Like I said, a good friend of mine's 89 has it with 15-inch, stock alloys and thin low profiles. It's a 5-speed with a 1.9 EFI motor and right over top of the letters&numbers 1.9 EFI has the 2 letters HO

some parts from the "old" 1.9 H.O. will fit the "new" (91 to 96) sefi 1.9....lotsa' people that want a header on their 91 to 96 1.9 i've noticed opt for the header from the "old" 1.9 H.O. over what's currently available from the aftermarket...or the turbo manifold from the old H.O. to the "new" 1.9...hell yeah!!!!!......i don't know if the head itself will interchange...and ANYTHING from a 91 pony will fit a 92 lx and vice versa....

I appreciate the info. I really don't know much about the Pony's, didn't know they exsisted till I was offered one for free with 135k mi. blown motor. wasn't sure what motor it had, since I only have books for a 83 to 90, and 92 to 96.

NO, he just stuck with his original statement...

91-96 used the twin cam 1.8 Mazda powerplant.

86-89 is before 91-96, is it not???

There was no " HO" version of the 1.9 engine.

Now, look at this statement. He claims there is no HO. That is wrong. but anyway, that don't matter, my original question has been answered.
